remembering that Jerry Springer The Opera exists is a weird experience because I remember it fondly and it's got a lot of great bits but I get the distinct impression that if I watched it again I'd hate it

Hey cis people: instead of going "ohhh woooow you people are soooooo braaave" while forgetting to cancel your HBO Max subscription or whatever, why not participate in today's most delicious of festivities?

what if we kissed at the Girl Being Kicked In The Balls event at Queers Park?
Disclosure: Despite knowing the girl who's doing this, I didn't have the good sense to get my own dang picture of the poster she made and I've just nicked the photo from 4KitSake on bsky

Rebecca Heineman is a goddamn legend among women. She did SO much great stuff, from getting Another World to run on 16-bit consoles not in the least bit designed to handle it, to making sure that the Kinect works when you're wearing a skirt, to tirelessly keeping the mac gaming scene alive, to making the worst version of DOOM kinda glorious in its own way.
And she did so much to boost trans visibility. By being so unapolagetically loud and proud as herself there's absolutely no goddamn way of counting how many of us she helped clear a path for.
She will be missed so goddamn hard!

So this is a thing that is VERY VERY much nowhere near done yet, but I want to share what I've got so far. It's a list of as many retro games as I can find which had a trans person on the dev team or otherwise involved in some way, along with a quick summary of who and what they did. It's partially an attempt to counter the narrative that trans people are some New Thing that's only just showed up on the gameing scene and also society in general, which sometimes these kinds of lists can accidentally imply, and also it's just kind of a fun bit of HEY LOOK AT ALL THIS COOL SHIT TRANS PEOPLE DID. I've found over 170 games so far, with quite a lot I'm still to properly go off on.
(Edit: That's over 230 games now. Thank you SO much people who've pointed me at stuff I've missed. I'll be working on trying to play all of these and write up stuff about the ones I haven't really said anything about yet.)

I know this is just Corporate Pride at the end of the day, but with everyone else falling over themselves to throw us under the bus the hardest, seeing this still means something

There's not a lot of things that hit in quite the same way as Gershon Kingsley and Jean-Jaques Perry doing their big psychedelic Moog/Ondioline duets. This rules so fucking much

if you even have the slightest inkling that maybe you're trans, you have less than a week to self refer to a GIC.
Don't worry, you'll have a solid fucking decade to think it through anyway.
