i buy a big box of rejected / ugly organic fruits and vegetables every 2 weeks from a company called ‘hungry harvest.’ it diverts them from the landfill, and into my belly. been doing it for years. really enjoy seeing what comes in, and making something out of it. keeps my creativity going. and, surprises are fun!
anyway this is homemade butternut squash (HH) ravioli with asparagus (HH) in a sage (HH) parmigiano reggiano cream sauce. it’s a 36 month aged parm that i brought back from parma, italy.
this was excellent, not gonna lie.

tonight’s dessert: **b’s chocolate peanut butter protein bomb**
🍫🥜💣
i made a big batch of this ridiculous protein ice cream and split it into 3 pint-ish sized ninja creami containers. i just ate half a container after lifting and i’m completely full.
it honestly tastes like real chocolate peanut butter ice cream, but the macros are insane.
half container macros:
~281 calories
~54g protein
~10–11g carbs
~2–3g fat
basically food-grade protein paste that somehow satisfies my snobby ice cream heart.
big batch recipe (6 large servings):
• 200g egg white chocolate peanut butter protein powder
• 4 fairlife (core power) 42g protein chocolate shakes
• 1 packet sugar-free chocolate pudding mix (~1.4 oz)
• 4g xanthan gum
• blend until thick and smooth
• split into 3 pint-ish containers, bang out air in containers, freeze overnight.
buy a ninja creami! i swear by it. when ready to eat, takeout for 20 minutes, run hot water on the sides of the container for 2 minutes. splash of milk on top then blend in the creami on “lite ice cream” setting. then blend again on lite ice cream.
— eat half a container post-lift and try not to laugh at how this ice cream is healthy.

i can definitely see that — i was fascinated with the idea of co-living. bought some books on it (very popular in europe it seems?). we are lacking community in so many contexts, co-living seems like it would definitely help. but one house with 6 people type co-living only works until a certain point/age. i think more college dorm-style living (first floor shared with community kitchen and living room) with each bedroom having little living spaces too maybe. but that kind of exists in those mammoth new apartment complexes (in the states). they have common areas that residents hardly ever use. so it’s more a societal issue perhaps? covid made us retreat more into ourselves … i think i want to start a monthly hangout / discussion group / something in my first floor. see how that evolves.

to be honest it was holding back my dating life and most importantly my goal of having a family. when i brought a woman home after a date for a night cap, a roommates had just smoked weed out on the back deck. she walks in and said “ew it stinks like weed in here.” i said “sorry that’s my roommate”. she asked bluntly: “why do you have roommates?” and i thought about it a lot —and felt she was right. (it didnt work out with her but not for this reason haha) but it was time to move on. now i am going to take a few months to decide if it’s too big a house for just me. sorry, wordy answer. it was a lot of fun but i guess neverland is no more!

BRIAN TRIES… cycling 45 miles!
i rode 45 miles down the shore 2 weekends ago. it was my first time on a bike in like 2 years — last time was on a shittybike… oops i mean citibike — landmark hopping in dc. that ride was awesome, but not because of the bike (that thing was heavy and slow compared to my old but speedy road bike). i didn’t even sign up for this ride — toph told me he had an extra spot with 2 weeks to go. no time for training! would i be okay? would my ass hurt like hell? yes. and yes. but the bay was gorgeous, the sun shimmering in its wake. honestly it wasn’t that hard; felt like i could’ve gone twice as fast. i’ve always wondered what it’s like to do a triathlon or even an ironman — it’s the swimming that scares me. biking? i could double this distance and pace. swimming fast? ehhh, not so much. my buddy carl’s been talking forever about doing a 4 corners bike trip… maybe this was day one of training. 🚲🍻 #briantries

i’m the guy who couldn’t clap on beat at a concert, so signing up for hip hop lessons felt insane. every week i walked in terrified, but walked out grinning. in a room full of mirrors, i didn’t see the nerd in my head — i actually looked… kinda okay. when the rhythm hit, i could find it and feel it, and i stuck with it. the instructor even fist-bumped me yelling “YESSSS BRIAN YESSSS.” peak of my hip hop career (so far). 5/5 would try again. #briantries
