Outside of the technology, I think the big difference is the network effects. Right now, it feels like most of my interest network moved to Mastodon, whereas most of the legitimate conversation I’m reading on nostr is about developing nostr (not lost on me that it’s because nostr dev is most of my follows, but a bit of a chicken & egg problem as my network isn’t here).
I’m wondering if it’d be possible to allow for interoperability between both (more than just crossposting).

Yep, agreed. There are also some paid relays (like https://nostr.wine/) but I’m not about to shell out some $$ for this, yet

I first joined through Damus. It seems like it auto-assigned a bunch of relays. Is that standard and expected for a nostr client going forward? How does one discovery relays?
