but I think there may also be a general limit to how many ppl want to microblog, the non-masto Fediverse hasn’t been fully explored or experimented with different interaction models. 🤷‍♂️

Mastodon hasn’t, nor have any other platforms afaik, invested as much in on-boarding or even inviting existing contacts (beyond invite codes)…

indeed, they were able to use their dominant market position:
offering IG users a new account, allowing your contacts to follow your ghost profile (telling you who or how many of your contacts are already doing so),
Then also advertising threads content on fb & ig, etc.

I see categories can be followed.
Can remote users create Topics in these categories, or only reply to existing threads?
There also seems to be a thing where forum categories can follow other actors.
And some sort mastodon integration to forum users.
