Tip: if you're writing a template function, one useful aspect of JS templates is buried in MDN docs: "For any particular tagged template literal expression, the tag function will always be called with the exact same literal array, no matter how many times the literal is evaluated."
Your template function can use this aspect to cache work across calls, so that it only has to process the strings for a given template expression once.
