Alex

I live in Québec City, Canada, with my long time partner, a library-sized collection of books, and an unhealthy amount of toys. I love to read genre fiction, watch scifi and murder-mystery TV shows, and generally moan about the weather.

And yes, it's true, I love Marmite!

Lucky you. We didn't get to see a thing here because of a huge snow storm. Well, I did get to see a lot of snow ...

I hope someone does this for me.

This shot of the moon was taken earlier tonight by my nephew, Cedrik. It looks amazing.

Ginger is excellent, you should try chewing a small piece daily. It's great for the stomach. And Garlic is more about the blood than a flu/cold remedy, but there you go. Chilli on the other hand? Hmm ...

Ha! Ha! I was being a tease. I think tisane is another word to describe herbal remedies? More akin to a tea but not a tea.
Anyway, I hope that concoction helped. My mum always swore by honey and lemon in warm water.

Not so much a tea as an infusion. And not sure I would want anything with fennel or caraway seeds in.

Asking a dorky question of those using Bearblog.
Is my little heart upvote thingie not working because (a) it's my blog and I can't vote or (b) because I have a free account and need to upgrade or, (c) because the code in my template is wrong?
Anyone?
Oh, the blog is: https://aside.bearblog.dev

I'm hoping they'll let me sleep too, but the truth is, I will be made to walk about 3 hours after the op to help with circulation and blood clots.
I've also got a ton of exercises to do every hour for the next few weeks. So, no rest for the wicked.

Here in QC the older generation seem to be confused by women with short hair as the number of times I have been mistaken for a guy is hilarious.
Most young women here have long hair you see so very few individuals outside certain circles

I don't understand why kids have to be quiet? It's beyond me where this notion came from. We were never quiet as kids, and I don't remember kids ever being quiet or so-called well behaved. By who's standards?
We weren't riotous, but definitely boisterous and no one complained to my parents. It's just what kids did when I was growing up.

Sorry you didn't have a happy childhood. But safe is better than not.
I guess when it comes down to it, times are bound to change based on what our childhoods were like, just how we bring up our own kids, and whether or not we care.
Maybe it's your kids generation that will change everything.

Let's hope you're right and there are more families like yours still providing their kids a place to grow and connect and find themselves and that the author's bleakness is just that, him mourning his own loss.

I guess seen through your own life, and where you live, and the times we live in now, yes, for you the loss of risk is a plus.
And I hope your kids get to experience a happy care-free childhood too.

But it's the fundamentals of what he talks about, that apply to us all in the western world. That loss that is slowly undermining everything in our modern society.
No, not everything is lost, but it is slowly slipping away like so much. And when it's gone it will be gone for good.

An extremely heartfelt post, by David, about what we've lost.

Not many of us ever carry cash anymore. We do everything on our phones. However, I always have a coin purse and have carried one for a long time. Just for these kind of things, but also, toilets. Who wants to be caught short because you don't have real money?
Anyway, don't feel so bad. My mum use to carry snack bars for various reasons. These always went down well with the homeless.

Well, that sucks. It must be something different to the allergens they're checking for.
But you need to take into account whether you live in a busy city, how many trees there are (their pollen is getting more virulent apparently) as there are so many other factors involved in a histamine reaction.

Men very rarely if ever apologise, and only if they've been caught out and embarrassed. Women always feel compelled to apologise even when no apology is necessary. I am sure there are many reasons for this.
Break yourself of the habit and only use that apology when absolutely necessary.

Better to have a proper doctor and less convenience to get too than someone who might cause you more problems later in life.

The doctors, family doctors, are no better here. Especially when it comes to women's health. Everyone seems to be so dismissive.
Change your doctor. Ask for a woman. Insist on a woman.
