Is there some trick to making grease guns usable? I had a shitty one, thought maybe spending more might help, now I have a battery powered one (fewer hand cramps at least) & still more grease goes around the fittings than in, & getting the hose to detatch is still nearly impossible.

We will eventually have a trustless way to share UTXOs and Liquid or Fedimints or Arks (or whatever comes next to improve upon them) will be the way most people interact. Lightning is also likely to be more for settlement between institutions. More horizontal scaling may come in the form of cross input signature aggregation or something like that.
Increasing the blocksize doesn't solve the problem. It's only a linear improvement in capacity & it is a compounding increase in the cost of node operation. You cannot sacrifice network infrastructure to gain functionality.

Bitcoin is a global court system for proving ownership of wealth. Going to court may cost $1000+ but a court that cannot be cheated & provides a receipt with millions of dollars worth of protection almost immediately & billions pretty quickly is not for doing things where you would naturally just throw the receipt away.
You are not thinking about these things properly & you do not seem to understand the scope of the problem.
There will be as many more transactions in bitcoin as there are individual internet requests today vs phone calls in the 80s. So making blocks bigger CANNOT even begin to solve the problem. It's like standing in front of the ocean & I have a cup & you have a bucket & you are talking about how much more of the ocean yours holds. It makes no difference.
Bitcoin is a broadcast network. The overwhelming majority of payments MUST be done on a unicast layer. This is not up for debate. It's just basic reality. Whether you understand it or not is your problem.

Except that I make 100x the number of txns on Lightning as I do onchain (as do most regular users & major businesses now) & that doesn't show on the chart you posted. Hedgehog channels are being added which will improve LN performance in all conditions. Eventually most transactions will be happening in fediments or arks that are networked via LN so onchain fee conditions won't matter for common use.

Transactions rarely cost more than a few dollars. We need better ways to trustlessly share UTXOs so that they can cost $1000+ because they probably will at some point.
The ~4mb limit has nothing to do with the cost of a harddrive.
It already costs a couple hundred dollars to buy the hardware needed to run a node. Storage & computational demands have grown & will continue to do so.
Lopp has written about past efforts to sync an ETH node from zero, which took weeks when everything went right & it repeatedly failed. Do you understand how fragile the network becomes if downloading & verifying everything takes that long & any significant number of nodes gets wiped out?
If only Google & Visa can run nodes then we have just recreated the Fed banks. They can change the rules & the supply however they see fit.
The cost of running a node gets exponentially larger as the number of nodes shrinks. Everyone who uses bitcoin has to connect to a node, what happens when the number of leechers massively outweighs the number of seeders? What does that do to the cost of seeding info?

The reason Monero & BCH work is because no one uses them. The more people do, the more centralized they become, just like we saw with ETH.
Bitcoin fairly regularly has blocks larger than 2mb. And the amount of transactions made in bitcoin is orders of magnitude larger than any shitcoin, most transactions just take place on Lightning & other layers.

It's not easy or elegant.
It's a hard fork that most of us aren't willing to support because we understand the long term costs. If you make it considerably more costly to run a node, say 10x, then you get significantly fewer nodes, more centralization, less resistance to future hostile changes, & you create a compounding risk of future network fragility if some significant portion of nodes get eliminated & have to resync from zero in order to secure the network. And for what?! 10x txn capacity does nothing in terms of the problem of putting everyone's coffee purchases on chain.
This debate has been had 1000 times & was already settled during the blocksize war. It's ridiculous how often these basic things have to be repeated.

Because every blockchain with meaningful adoption that has tried to do more txns on the base layer has still ended up with massive txn costs & because of their choices about base layer capacity they became centralized.
And the only reason it hasn't happened to bitcoin is that it is much harder to change. So how else are you going to add capacity if not in layers?
Even Hal suggested bitcoin banks would be necessary. But hopefully we will have something like shared UTXOs backing L2 blockchains which are networked via Lightning, so that everyone gets their own virtual UTXO & doesn't have to depend on trusting people too much.

And using Monero requires either losing wealth or some sort of exchange cost, so if neither monero nor cashu are good places to store money, why not use the cheaper swap to make private payments? Liquid has confidential transactions. Cashu is Chaumian ecash, both are networked via lightning so that with the right wallet(s) you can move seamlessly between the two.
The tools are definitely not as mature and seamless as I would like but they are there, and more is coming. Altcoiners don't want to see reality because their bags depend on it.
Even in a world where hundreds of govts force people to use national forms of money, everything has tended toward one. Govt force isn't going to be there to bolster altcoins as the world wakes up from this financial dark age we have been trapped in.

Bitcoin sidechains make way more sense than adding exchange & price volatility risk to make a private transaction. It doesn't really make sense to use Monero at all.
Monetary network effects are very unforgiving & I think this will beasically be a "winner takes all" sort of competition.
Unquestionable supply auditablity is more important than perfect privacy.
Stealth addresses & sidechains networked via lightning & other minor improvements will continue to compound bitcoin's privacy potential a little bit at a time. Something like CISA that improves efficiency in terms of on chain footprint while also improving privacy would be ideal.

Guns Germs & Steal is a decent read. Reading about & studying health stuff. Spending a lot of time browsing health groups & forums around dietary advice & other things. Paying attention to gardening & permaculture stuff. The same patterns are everywhere. The names for "diseases" people get are mostly just bullshit that someone made up. The root causes have more to do with some sort of damage or deficiency that makes the infection possible.

Damage to the spinal cord in the gut region makes them unable to walk. When something passes through gut tissue (creates leaky gut conditions) it can shuttle in all sorts of pathogens that are almost always present & would otherwise be harmless. So the problem isn't the pathogen it's the substance that granted the pathogen access to parts of you where they can do harm. But blaming the pathogen allows pesticide companies to escape liability & pharama corps to sell a new treatment.

Being "nice" in the short term is easier on you, but it contributes to the destruction of the people you are lying to. It is the most cowardly people who tell the most white lies. If she was standing right in front of me I would tell her she is overwheight & that it's not beautiful at all. And that the emptiest sort of win anyone could ever experience is a "win" they secretly know they didn't earn. I would tell her that she is surrounded by horrible people who would clearly prefer to humiliate her than to help her. And I would offer dietary advice if she wanted it.

Out of curiostity what would the amendment be that you want to see added?
Term limits were mentioned, but I actually think that would have the opposite of the desired effect & create even more of a tragedy of the commons sort of problem. People just getting in to take as much as possible before they're out. And even more power would just be handed over to the permanent unelected bureaucracy.

Getting people on board with bitcoin is in the individual's best interest & it naturally snowballs in our favor.
Working for some sort of constitutional change (as if the federal govt gives 2 shits about obeying the constitution anyway) will most likely just be a tremendous waste of time & energy & reources, to fight against all the natural govt incentives, for something that will be effectively undone or otherwise made meaningless by default in just a matter of months or years after it is achieved.
You can't fight criminals via the channels they set up for you to fight them.

I have been there for a long time, but I am also not completely sure how accurate it really is. I know all the arguments, and I haven't voted because I don't want any sort of responsibility for any of the shit these people do. But at the same time, if one tyrant wants to whip everyone 10 times a day & the other wants to just whip us 2 times a day, I don't see what harm there is in saying I'd prefer ro be whipped less while still working to undermine the whole thing.
It seems like the only real risk is in thinking that politics is some sort of answer to the problems & just waiting for someone to save us instead of working to save ourselves.

Idk, I think being on the recieving end of these rather constant social attacks makes us stronger & more aware of who we really are, while the rest become soft & actually completely lose who they are without the context & support of their social group. It's like an anti-fragility thing. I don't think playing the collectivist game really makes us stronger.
I think tools for better coordination are critically important (bitcoin, nostr, keet, etc) & the others mostly just trade genuine coordination for mindless following & group think. One is empowering & the other is disempowering. You can be destructive with mindless collectivism & that can appear powerful in a way, but it really isn't. Real power is productive.
