Brings to mind Joan Didion's "Holy Water" essay. https://docslib.org/doc/9569528/holy-water-joan-didion-in-1979s-the-white-album-californian

Curious name, liverwort.

Can Google Scholar citation counts be given credence these days? There have always been valid grounds for criticizing citation counts, but I'm wondering if sloppification has greatly amplified the problems. Thoughts?

Boycott Google?

I have zero background on these topics, but my intuition is that if it was easy to create and distribute such jailbreaking software it would already abound.

Super helpful. Thanks! I had found the Corcoran study, and been in touch with them. But the MI one was new to me.

Individual Differences in Cognition. New journal published by the Psychonomic Society. That would have been rad for Psychonomes back in the day.

Ah! I see. Relatedly, I am looking for studies assessing the effect of traffic calming "road diets" and bike lanes on emergency vehicle response times. Know of such?

Sounds plausible, but my ignorance is vast. I do sometimes wonder if the e cost of sending a digital photo varies appreciably with resolution and hence file size. That is something I control. Seems likely that the e cost increases with resolution, but how much I dunno.

Very thought provoking. "The experiment succeeded because the human supervisor had done the grunt work, years ago, that the machine is now supposedly liberating us from....Making the models smarter doesn't solve the problem. It makes the problem harder to see. "

Question for journal editors who handle experimental psych submissions: Have you ever offered authors who receive a reject/revise/resubmit decision requiring an additional experiment the option of doing that follow-up experiment as a sort of Registered Report -- that is, pledge that if they do the follow-up experiment as agreed (including decent statistical power to detect a reasonable smallest effect size of interest) you will accept the manuscript regardless of the outcome? Pros and cons of doing that?

I have no expertise at all here, but enough imagination to find this frightening. https://www.earth.com/news/lightning-near-the-north-pole-signals-major-climate-shifts/
