Yesterday I wrote about selling bitcoin to pay rent.
Someone said it is not failing. That it is what I stacked for. You are right.
But it made me look at something I keep avoiding. I do not have a cash buffer. I live paycheck to paycheck. Every month is negative cash flow. By the time the month ends, there is nothing left, and sometimes less than nothing.
The problem is not the spending. It is that I have no system. I pay my fixed expenses the day my salary lands, from the same account I spend from. Then something comes that I did not plan for, and the money is gone. It is never one big thing. It is a few ordinary expenses stacking up in the same month. A fee here, a school payment there, something for the family, and suddenly I am selling bitcoin again.
I am better at bitcoin than I am at my own money. I can tell you why the Fed is broken. I could not tell you what I will owe next quarter.
Here is what I want to try. I do not want to open another bank account. So the options I am looking at are:
• Setting aside a fixed amount as cash each payday, in a place I do not touch
• Paying known future expenses early, so they never arrive as a surprise
• Writing down every recurring cost so I stop being caught off guard
• Or something I have not thought of yet
If you live like this, what actually works for you? I am open. I have no system right now and I would rather copy yours.

I sold Bitcoin this month to cover rent.
Not because I wanted to. Because my fiat ran out before my paycheck comes in.
I’ve been in Bitcoin since 2021. I believe in it completely. I hodl, I self-custody, I think about sats that I could have stacked when I am spending. All the things the maxis always preach. Then I realize the part nobody with a big stack talks about: I don’t earn in Bitcoin, I earn fiat. Life costs money. Some months, the two just don’t line up.
So I sold. It stung. Not because of the current price (it wasn’t even that bad), but because of what it represents. Every sat I sell is a sat that isn’t compounding for 20 years. Every time I do this, I’m trading my future for my present. And the present always wins because rent comes due every single month.
I sold 0.01 btc at 83k, just a little more than 1k in my currency. It provided me some buffer for this month, but I already know what’s coming in the next few weeks. By next month that buffer will disappear. It will go to paying my kids’ school fees. It will go to groceries. It will go to paying my credit card debt.
I don’t have a solution yet. That’s why I’m writing this. I’m one person with a modest income, a family, and a conviction I can’t afford to fully live out. I’m going to document the whole thing. How I budget in a currency that swings 20% in one month. When I sell. When I don’t. What I learn. Maybe it will help someone in the same spot. Or maybe you can help me.
If you’ve ever sold at the wrong time because life didn’t wait, I’d like to hear how you handle it.

Even if we fail in this #Bitcoin mission, the next generation will thank us for trying. The fight for financial freedom is never wasted. Who’s with us?

Bitcoin isn’t a big deal.
• In 2012, having 100 BTC wasn’t a big deal.
• In 2016, having 10 BTC wasn’t a big deal.
• In 2020, having 1 BTC wasn’t a big deal.
• In 2024, having 0.1 BTC isn’t a big deal.
Am I missing something?

Wake up. The banks are not your friend. The government is not on your side. Your money aka life’s energy is being sucked out from you. And it’s only gonna get worse. You have a lifeboat in front of you. Opt out of the system. Take responsibility yourself. #Bitcoin
