The new iOS 18 beta 5 safari build has two very cool new features.
1. Hide distractions. Now you can select parts of a webpage to hide them. This compliments having an ad blocker as you may also want to hide other parts of the webpage that are not adverts.
2. Safari now lets you listen to any webpage.
I need to test the accuracy and the extent of this feature but first impressions it works really well.

AI is in the control of a few large companies. Using LLMs we will be manipulated by govts to trust the AI information. It’s all black box so under no external scrutiny. All the ‘isms’ will be replicated to limit the role of minorities. At least today we have some checks and balances over companies & govts through laws. We have none with AI. It’s the perfect tool for the 1% to control the masses.

4/6 I wrote to both organisers many months ago asking if I could give a presentation on Podcasting 2.0 and/or run a series of seminars from other speakers involved in Podcasting 2.0. I know many hosts and apps would love to speak either on panels or individually about what is happening at the sharp end of podcasting. Then there are music artists using RSS to earn money directly from their fans. Audiobooks, Courses and Films are now being distributed via RSS.

Podcasting 2.0 is three years old. 20+ hosting and app companies have now joined the Podcast Standards Project and all have implemented Podcasting 2.0 features to a greater or lesser degree each of which enhances RSS and thus podcasting for the user but you never hear anything about this new RSS standard at either of these events.

According to FediDB, the ActivityPub side of the Fediverse is now used by nearly 10 million people, across more than 27,000 servers. FediDB also tracks 48 different platforms leveraging ActivityPub in some way. With Threads actively doing work their own implementation, these stats are likely to skyrocket, in more ways than one.

TrueFans.FM (my app) collects user's activity into an ActivityStream. The next step is to publish this activity data to the user's ActivtyPub client with their permission.
We currently have 30 verbs in TrueFans. Users can choose to hide all activity or publish whatever verbs they choose.
How this leads to app interoperability is still under discussion.

I was going to subscribe to Evan Prodromou's new premium account but realised this is not Value 4 Value. This is the old web model of pay me every month even if I offer no value. Me paying Evan would be a leap of faith to believe he will deliver me $5 or more value. Now Evan may well do that but in a Value 4 Value model I would pay Evan what I wanted to based on me valuing his content and then only paying for what I consume. This is one reason why ActivityPub needs to support SATs.

@npub1anf…2trg this is my bad. We are poor at explaining the more complex features we have built. You can change the toggle from streaming to support in your user settings. This will then pre-pay in full for every podcast you are a fan off. Yuo can limit this to a budget so you won't empty your wallet. However you can also leave the toggle on streaming in your user settings and then do what I do and change the setting to support on per podcast level.

What is missing are better reporting tools to show the total streaming or supported value paid. so many podcasters ignore the streaming value and only mention the boost values. That is because boosts are easy to see and thus mention.
We need better tools for podcast creators to see who is streaming their podcast and what was the total value paid.

I have also done this for several other podcasts I love and want to support including Podcasting 2.0, Meremortal's Value For Value and The Future of Podcasting to name but a few. This is a much better way to support a podcast than subscriptions.
This is true V4V. I only pay in full for the newly published episode. I don't blindly pay a monthly subscription fee when a podcast creator fails to publish a new episode.

One of my favourite features in TrueFans is our ability to SUPPORT any podcast.
Normally I would STREAM a podcast and only pay SATs per minute for what I consume.
But for some podcasts I want to SUPPORT them as creators and pay for the entire new episode even if I don't listen to it.
So I have set the PLAY value for Podnews Daily to §100 sats per min and have set the toggle from streaming to support.
So every day when James publishes his new episode I immediately pay the full value.

So here is the 'first look' (beta) of our Podcast Host recommendation service.
This podcast has 10 podcasting 2.0 tags selected.
Its original RSS feed only supported 6 tags. They have added 4 new tags using the TrueFans admin dashboard - person, podroll, license and update frequency.
Based on the 10 tags selected these are the Top 10 hosts we recommend if they want to switch. The first version release will be available on Friday.

Later this week TrueFans will launch our new Podcast Host recommendation engine. So when podcasters or artists add new P2.0 tags to their RSS feeds in their admin dashboard, we will tell them which hosts support the tags they have selected.
The goal is to help podcasters add more P2.0 features and to know which hosts are best suited.

Hi chaps no idea if Truefans needs to set preload=none or not? Will experiment. But we have a setting called 'autoplay' which is set to off by default.
The user can set this on themselves and then all episode tracks will play automatically when the page loads.

Some days building an app can be a thankless task. People want every feature yesterday and have little tolerance for minor bugs.
But that is fine I love building Truefans everyday. And then there are days when you see the app being used as you hoped with people boosting and other people boosting live and people replying.

Checked the feed and its the correct one on Podcast Index from Podhome. I have checked the RSS and there are multiple guests listed but we are either not pulling it or displaying it. Will have an answer in the morning .

Hi Gene you can manually refresh your feed yourself anytime when you claim your podcast. Then login - creators.truefans.fm
I have done the manual refresh for you and looked at the last episode and there is a guest. I can't see any other episodes that have a guest?

We added one last killer feature for podcasters. If you have an amazing interview and don't want users to pay zero you can lock the value in your admin. So by setting the play value to §1000 sats and clicking lock users cannot pay less than §1000 sats but can choose to pay more. You can then remove the lock when you feel you have earned your value.

Of course I can take it one level further and not have a generic support turned on in my user settings for every podcast I am a fan.
Instead in the popup info for each podcast I can just support one podcast and level my general settings to stream for every other podcast whether I am a fan or not.

Finally in the users settings we added a feature asked by @npub1df6…ns3a With both Podcast index and Podnews daily/weekly I have changed the setting in my profile to support.
What this means is I have chosen to pay in full for every new episode I am a fan irrespective if I listen to 1 second of those podcasts or the whole podcast.

So after I change my individual value for a podcast in the popup page. We recalculate all the episode total values. - see image below. I do this for a handful of podcasts I regularly follow. and set the default value to §100 sats for play.

So we go another V4V level. If I become a fan of yours or any podcast, we allow users to set their own individual value for that one podcast. So now with your podcast I have changed my default value to §50 sats.
