Last Notes npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null Kaweco: Lets design a pen (perkeo) that needs an empty cartridge in the barrel to to keep the actual cartridge seated, but also, lets design that barrel such that if you put that seating cartridge in a certain way, it'll get stuck in the barrel half way, preventing you from capping the (rapidly drying) pen. I hate seating cartridges to begin with, but especially when I can't shake the stuck one loose and have to get a tweezers to pry it out. Who's dumbass oversight was this? #fountainpens npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null @nprofile…k95v My suspicion is that it’s one of those conversation topics that is both deeply fascinating to the speaker and entirely about them. npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null ...I am not sure why some people are obsessed with sharing dreams. What am I supposed to say? Am I supposed to pretend it means something? I'm often held hostage for a 20 minute explanation of some brain white-noise, and if I don't feign interest I am the bad guy. npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null I ran a oneshot of Tunnels & Trolls 1E It was a fun history experience, even if in today's terms its kinda ... a bad game. The game itself feels pretty much incomplete. You're going to immediately run into ambiguities and missing rules almost instantly (movement? Dungeon rounds? resolution mechanic? good luck. You'll need it, because luck is the best stat). It feels like what it is: The work of someone who read a copy of oD&D, didn't really get it, and then hacked out something like it based on what he thought it was. Which given that it was written when the genre didn't know what it was ... is fair. It's got a lot of interesting notions, like how strength and dexterity are casting stats, monster ratings, group combat resolution, a bunch of fun, zany spells, and an entirely overwrought 'berserk' mechanic. It could have used a lot more playtesting though. Today I couldn't imagine running a campaign in this. Certainly many did, and it must have been crazy. I would get frustrated with it and begin writing out my own hack. I tried to think of what I'd do if I was around in 1975 and trying to run this thing. I think I would have done the same (and with oD&D), but who knows. Still. We ran a dungeon, laughed, had a good time. I would like to try a later edition of T&T to see the arc of its evolution. #Tunnelsandtrolls #TTRPG npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null Ordering a birthday gift. Games workshop's system is kinda ... passive aggressive. Everyone else says "Your order has been received." Games workshop? We have your order details. like they've kidnapped my child or something. why do you make it sound so sinister? npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null Discords event system has been broken since it released with regards to daylight savings. I have to go and fix it every god damn time. This year was especially bad. Usually it moves the time by an hour. This time it seems to have reset everything to UTC. So they tried to fix something, and just fucked it up worse. npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null My fellow Americans: please learn some escalator etiquette. Single file. Stand on the right, let people walk on the left. It drives me wild when I’m in a hurry and I can’t get up or down the escalator quickly because everyone is standing haphazardly like a dipshit. npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null Pictured: Half of the people In my timeline. https://media.sakurajima.social/uploads/webpublic-6dac611e-2c57-4bbf-a3b4-6b0657260b81.png npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null After some bemused consideration, the party agreed that a summoning circle is indeed a condom for inter-dimensional spells, and that they’d been irresponsible for not using one. #TTRPG npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null I like hitting things in TTRPGs. A good game for me has some hitting stuff and some good deal not hitting stuff. But I can never find a system that balances it. Most games with satisfying hitting systems treat their characters as war gaming units with window dressing. This being all the D&Ds for example. They may contain some abilities and skills for when not hitting stuff, but they must be purchased at the expense of hitting stuff, and to players the stakes of combat always seem higher even they they are not, so that’s where the build points go. That’s even if it’s plausible - most games have extremely weak non-combat skill systems. That and these systems give their combat abilities far more control over the combat situation than noncombat abilities give them over the non combat situations. They’re just worse value. I feel like we should separate these aspect of character development and work in better ways to give the players more control in non combat scenes so the GM doesn’t have to carry the whole thing… and still keep a decent hitting things system when we do it. #TTRPG npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null I bought myself a Sailor Tuzu F. Of all the entry level fountain pens with a triangular grip, I like the hold of this one the best. The nib is that very Sailor-signature scratchy. It’s probably the closest I’ve gotten to writing with a FP that feels like a pencil. It’s also very sharp - no matter how light I hold I feel like it’s cutting into the paper and picking particulates. Usually I don’t have this problem on this paper. I like the look and the feel - but I have two complaints. First is that this is a very dry pen. I loaded up with 54th mass which is a very wet ink and it’s still pretty dry. The feed can’t quite keep up and I have to let it catch up every once in awhile. I’m not sure this would work with a dry ink. Second is the price. This is in the same price range as a Lamy Al-star and I’m not sure it’s a better pen given the plastic body. It does come with a converter, which is nice. You’re paying for the unique sailor style nib though. I think for entry level a plaisir, safari, or pilot metro are better for being half the price unless you really want that intentional scratch. #fountainpen npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null I have an unhealthy love for blue-black foutain pen inks, especially if they're faded in the "blue" direction, like 54th Mass, Sailor Souboku, or Diamine Prussian Blue. ...Must not buy another bottle. #fountainpens npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null Someone gave me an AmazonBasics fountain pen. It's... Ok. It feels like a standard Chinese fountain pen. Which usually means you get a good price and materials you wouldn't expect (the body is metal) but the QA is pretty lacking. This one's nib was misaligned with the feeder, and if it give it a shake, it rattles a bit. A lot of chinese pens (such as the Jinhaos) also often fall apart after time because a lot is held together with glue, but I can't know with this until that time. It writes fine though. The grip isn't ideal, but I actually like a lot of the chinese nibs. My only complaint is again usually the QA. I usually have to spend some time tuning. This one came alright though. My main complaint is the cartridge. Supposedly this thing takes an international short, but the given cartridges are actually somewhat different in shape (narrower and longer than my Diamine cartridges). It was a pain to seat but I got it to take the Daimine. I worry about how it'll sit though. Partially because this pen comes with a seater cartridge. That's when they give you a free (sometimes full, sometimes not) cartridge tucked in the barrel. But I only encounter this when they expect you to keep that cartridge there, because the fit isn't so great and they want to keep something pressed against the cart. It was a gift and these things sell for ~$10 so I won't complain too much. I think a Platinum Prefounte is a better pen for the same price, even if its plastic and those are definitely proprietary fits. This pen is going in my list of "Pens I'll take with me out of the house, because I won't cry if it gets lost" #fountainpens npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null I am of the mind that a dog is still an animal, and thus has a black box mind that you cannot fully predict or know. Since there is always an opportunity for it to surprise you with its actions, you should act accordingly. My siblings friend has a pretty nasty bite wound on their hand because they spooked their “would never hurt a fly” dog in the middle of a play-fight with another dog and ended up chomped on. Like: yep, that thing can always happen my guy. npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null @nprofile…20qw Indeed. It's often an afterthought, and many engineers have a bad habit of braindumping rather than considering the audience and informing. npub1azvmz450c57g44lyejcmc5dp7fcm5775wt3vxt3r3vpaxdwu5t9qgjgyn5 Null Using an LLM to write technical documentation is a terrible idea. They’re mostly trained on documentation written by engineers who are bad at it, and it shows.
