I think the source is influential so would seem worth some thought.
I think the claim it “does nothing” is wrong. I think Bitcoin is the only technology that can move $ 1 million dollars (chosen because it the most liquid currency) any distance at any time without any permissions or middlemen or 3rd party.
That may not happen often, maybe never, but it’s not just theory- it’s actually possible with an internet connection and two agents willing to transact. What’s more they can move those Bitcoin back and forth probably 48 times in a single day give or take.
That isn’t just a nitpick that seems to be
A completely novel capability and seemingly so profoundly impactful it would seem to require full stop on the speakers rant because the rest that follows hangs off the “does nothing” chain that was snapped.
If I am wrong please help me understand

Mostly people trying to learn
Hard to go from zero to 95 mph on economics, money, energy, banking, inflation and at the same time get the “right” mobile.
Just keep it in mind. Manifestos are fine but the “checklist manifesto” (ie what to do) actually gets more results.

I’m envisioning a cash on delivery payment practice for physicians where patients pay at the time of the visit.
Most (elderly) patients will not have access to bitcoin but will have credit cards.
Is there a company that provides a device that converts credit card payments directly to bitcoin for the accepting physician?

I have an opportunity to talk to younger residents.
I am somewhat convinced
1- low time preference and
2- small daily habits with a focus on long term life or avoiding ruin
Will / do
a) create implicit “contracts” with myself in the future and such contracts
b) reduce present anxiety or eliminate risk to burnout.
Anyone know of non anecdotal science suggesting such future orientation actually helps in medicine?

I think about these situations a lot.
When I think someone very ill is younger than me, it assumes import on the 1st face of growth - personal physical increase in time and space. And in that facet - I will likely outgrow him or her.
But the other faces of growth I think make us human are
- mental / intellectual (growth in knowledge)
- Social / emotional (growth in friends / family / social contacts)
- spiritual (non physical)
Growth in any of these facets is life worth saving / preserving. But while the 1st facet is the required foundation for all the others, it’s also the only face of growth that has to end at death.

W/ respect I thought
1- bitcoin used to not exist; so current price of bitcoin x current number = fiat that did leave the banking system
2- bitcoin is still being mined so every new bitcoin mined and sold = fiat that does leave the banking system
3- fractional reserve banking means every fiat $ leaving a bank reduced bank fiat by x10 or more? Even if the bitcoin seller gets fiat for the bitcoin, the fiat may not be re deposited into the bank, fast enough, before that fractional leverage has impact ?
I am probably in error somewhere here.

When some entrepreneur creates a “nostr_phone” that has only 3 functions - node running (whatever variety the caller speaks of), Damus app and a lightening wallet (?) with whatever operating system and connectivity that knowledgeable privacy experts here deem safe then I bet adoption would be huge by those who want to help. I could be wrong but apple iphone showed me that producing what people need in a streamlined model achieved vast rapid adoption. Maybe not the best analogy I don’t know but I think there is something there.

W/ respect: my limited understanding of self custody of bitcoin is that as energy (and thus a physical thing) true equity (in the in vogue sense) is impossible. What bitcoin Sarah has custody of/ keys to right now, Fred cannot have custody of (in the same way and at the same time). Akin to a chair- where Sarah sits, Fred cannot sit (in the same way and at the same time). I do not believe this is different for any physical things.
Differently, information on how to access bitcoin can and should be equitable. As a non physical thing, the _idea_ of how to acquire it can be held by many (infinite) as long as the have a non physical means to receive the idea (intellect).
Thus while it’s futile to pursue equitable distribution of self custody of coin, it would be possible to pursue equitable distribution of the means to self custody. Am I in error or is this sound ? #docchain

Respectfully, the world needs a well executed series on how to get millions of people with limited knowledge, limited tech, limited privacy and limited physical security off of zero Bitcoin. Thought leaders with straightforward recipe like instructions that would allow friends, families, pastors, doctors, mayors a fighting chance to prevent the least connected and most vulnerable citizens from being left behind (but also not lead them into scams or broken structures). Education may be easier if viable solution is in hand. Maybe a essay series by thought leaders: “How would you get your 70 year old aunt/uncle without a smartphone off zero?”. Respectfully, how will millions of people without much be able to “get off zero” if they lack the means to understand and manage risk? I think Mr. Saylor in a podcast with Mr. Breedlove made some similar remark about say an elderly citizen unable to physically navigate keys using some custodial service- but which one? It would seem custodial services have low probability but cumulative high impact risk and for the millions managing ones own keys has high probability and low impact but that impact will increase with time? ⚡️

Is our time better spent becoming:
1)Better educated on nuclear; assuming one is one of the 94 million Americans ages 25 and over, which is about 42% of the total U.S. population with “some” college education (at any level)
2)Improving access to bitcoins if by the end of 2022, the number of US adults who own at least one cryptocurrency will “climb” to 33.7 million.
If nostr does #2 won’t #1 take care of itself in time? Winning requires improving #2. Apologies for hijack.

Submitted with respect: zaps are not intuitive, are not ingrained in functionality of the (iPhone app for me) app, based in hope, and frankly are a terminology already smacking of in/out group. Likes are easy, ingrained, supported. I think out casting “likes” by those with a platform to lead may be elitist if this (nostr) is a ground roots effort.

Why is it so critical?
How would the nostr community move so many fellow men and women “off zero” and avoid KYC?
If nostr cannot provide do this, moving off zero, step by step, who will? If no one then all those fellows are left behind.
If they are, how can winning be success?
