It's worth noting that the "Responsible Use of Generative AI" which #Debian voted to accept was largely generated by an LLM.

I've spent about 100 hours of work to make sure git-annex can build without dependencies that contain LLM generated code. At least so far.
https://git-annex.branchable.com/no_llm_code/
This has me reconsidering my continued use of #haskell

how many watts does a fridge use?
If you search this, you will get all wrong answers based on the nameplate, which lists the maximum power the fridge uses at compressor startup.
A 1 kw balcony #solar system with a small battery can easily run a fridge 24/7 365 in all weather conditions. I did that for 5 years with a similar system.

Wow, it's been too long since I read a really good #haskell blog post.
https://blog.haskell.org/a-couple-million-lines-of-haskell/
Putting this away to enjoy later, I was up at 6 am working out how to winch a huge hot water heater from a pickup truck onto my porch. Which we succeeded at eventually..

At the point of permantly closing off communication and cutting ties with people who continue to inflict AI slop on me in bug reports etc.
This will have financial consequences for me, and probably reduces the probability I am able to continue working on free software in the medium term, but so be it.
The probability I would irreparably burn out if I don't do this is 100%.

@nprofile…g4vn protip, go to https://github.com/claude and click on Block User and you will see a helpful warning banner on any github repo that contains code from it.

scrolling through #gitAnnex backlog that I have not had time to look at yet. 375 messages going back a long while.
Always feel bad about not getting to everything, but I do eventually get to most things.
Anyway, it's really nice that I actually have funding for some hours each month to try to keep up with all the messages, and sometimes even dig into the backlog, sponsored by the INM-7 at Forschungszentrum Jülich.

#gitAnnex can now use Iroh to connect two repositories located anywhere, including behind firewalls needing hole punching.
As well as sending data with git-annex, git pull and push works too

Just gonna mention one time more that the #github ToS gives them a license to use your content in a way that is very apparent in 2025 includes training their LLM on it.
The only license I will ever provide to my free software is the license it's publically released under, so I will never push it to #github, and have not since the day they made this part of their ToS.

testing new #gitAnnex feature that lets it be used with just about any P2P network that supports socket-like connections. yggdrasil, fowl, iroh, etc. Expanding on tor hidden services that git-annex already supports.
My test script simulates such a network using socket files with this absurdly small shell script.
It was pretty cool when "git pull" and "git-annex get" just worked over this on the 1st try.

#sourdough starter died after 4 months in the fridge, ending a 5 year streak
Luckily, I was able to scrape some dried dough flakes from a banneton, that got me a new starter going quickly.

#DuckDuckGo seems to be using an LLM to generate and/or mangle many of the page summaries in their search results.
I have all applicable settings turned off. And there is no warning about this. This is unacceptable, and I will no longer use this search engine.
