No, datacenter GPUs cannot reasonably be repurposed into gaming GPUs. Technically probably possible, practically infeasible.
The primary differences are the absence of display output hardware, dramatically different memory (type, quantity, bandwidth), processor die layout (multi-die vs single monolithic die), and per draw (a B200 can draw 1000w on its own)
It is theoretically possible to strip and rebuild them into something else but it would be extremely costly and you would still have a memory scarcity problem since the memory hardware is fundamentally different and non-convertible.

I kind of hate that Indian food in my area only comes in three levels of spicy: "American Idiot", "India Native", and "Who the Fuck Even Orders This?!"

it's unadulterated self-interest; they've calculated that they stand to lose more by becoming a target of Luna's ire than yours. Whether that's because they believe more people support Luna than you, or something else, it's always a matter of self-interest in these situations.
Same reason so many people have caved to pressure from the current US administration. 🤷‍♀️
I'm so sorry you continue to deal with this bullshit :(

big same here with some rules enforcement on Urusai.
I feel much more comfortable moderating based on my personal morals and ethics around here for two reasons:
1) My primary goal has always been creating a space I am happy and proud to be part of, and anyone who likes the space I create too is welcome to join. I'm not trying to appeal to everyone.
2) Sanctions on fedi are not globally exclusionary. I am not CAPABLE of kicking someone out of the fediverse myself. If I ban someone from Urusai, I'm not denying them access to the ecosystem, and usually not even our content. They are free to go elsewhere to access all the communities and content. Just not through my community.
This makes me a lot more comfortable taking swift and decisive action

So, after the very old, very traditional ryokan in Hakone I knew I would want my last two days in Japan to be in a nice western-style hotel.
What I forgot is that my Amex card gets me free room upgrades and .... ummm.... wwwwwWOW

At what age should I stop assuming someone has seen Starship Troopers?
Don't say all ages I will cut you :zerotwoKnife:
Edit: I mean their age. How young does someone have to be before I shouldn't make the assumption?

The important part is that Mastodon doesn't (currently) manipulate the timeline ordering for the purpose of fabricating engagement. That is a fact worth spreading and I'm not picky about the terminology used being technically accurate

🤷 So long as everyone involved in the conversation knows what they mean - "Mastodon doesn't manipulate your timeline/feed for the purpose of maximizing engagement" - I didn't really care what words people use.
I really don't think that the people saying "Mastodon doesn't use an algorithm" are confused about whether Mastodon *could* do the bad things in the future. Nor do I think they will feel like it's some "gotcha" moment when they learn that the literal definition of "algorithm" applies to Mastodon.
I really think you're worried about something that is a non-issue, and are only creating FUD and a sense of "this platform is not welcoming" when you argue over this type of thing.

if it weren't well on the way to becoming a colloquialism we wouldn't be having this conversation.
I literally had a conversation with my 75yo mother a few days ago in which she asked about "algorithms" on Twitter and Instagram.
It has entered the common vernacular, thanks to media using the term, among anyone with moderate tech literacy. Like, does Joe Farmer know or care either way? No. But that person isn't relevant to the discussion because they're never talking about algorithms in the first place (whether they're using that word or not).
I dunno, man, it just feels like a weird hill to die on.

IMO this is a bit pedantic and very apparently not what people mean when they say "algorithm" in this context.
If you want to discuss with people why it's important to maintain the literal definition of the term and not let it become a colloquialism, that is your prerogative. But to ignore the elephant in the room that is common vernacular is, IMO, serving nobody.
The fact is that in casual conversation among the general public "algorithm" in the context of social media is interpreted as "a complex analysis resulting in inscrutable ordering logic, as opposed to something simple like chronological ordering, usually with the specific intent of maximizing user engagement."
I'm not gonna bust chops when they say "algorithm" until there's a better word/phrase to say it succinctly

Friendly reminder: On mastodon/etc, Likes (aka Favorites) aren't what they are on other social networks. Around here:
**Boost** = "I like this, and think others might like it too!"
**Favorite** = "I like this, but that's between me and OP"
Without an "algorithm" choosing what to show you, we rely on our neighbors and follows to boost cool stuff.

Hard disagree. This is like saying email isn't decentralized because Gmail exists. Decentralized =/= homogeneously distributed.
If .social disappeared overnight my server's federated timeline would hardly change much. And another large server would quickly step in to fill their role as "newbies' first instance".
IMO it's all about any server being replaceable, even the largest "flagship" instance.

questions:
Who determines the number of shares available? Creating new shares devalues existing shares so does the business control the unowned shares until they're purchased? Does that mean there needs to be a periodic vote to create more shares in order to get more customers (since customers just be shareholders)?

What happens to abandoned shares? If I am a one-time purchase customer who just wants one of your product, and I buy a single share (presumably built into the price of the product), then never interact with your business again, what happens to my share?

What is stopping anyone from setting up shell entities to purchase shares and lease them to a single entity? Are you requiring purchases from humans and checking government ID or something?

take it from an industry professional: freemium is the most effective monetization model for small app devs.
Users have an unbelievable number of free options at their fingertips, so they're extremely hesitant to invest money in a product they haven't tried unless it's from a brand they recognize.
Try-before-you-buy is the way to bridge that gap. It feels icky to upsell people but it's genuinely what most consumers respond to.

Hey #MastoAdmin / #FediAdmin folks, there's a spam wave happening.
They are using QR codes with random color schemes so you can't use blurhash filters. And there is no text other than username direct mentions
Spam usernames are random strings, on poorly moderated servers as usual
Anyone have recommendations for mitigation?
If you don't have an admin team that can handle properly auditing account registrations and dealing with reports quickly, I strongly recommend disabling open registrations on your servers for now

If an employer ever asks you to resign, tell them "no".
There is no benefit to resigning unless you have another job lined up already.
Make them fire you. Get your unemployment benefits. Make sure you are legally protected in case of malfeasance. Resigning undermines all of that.
This message brought to you by AWS telling workers to return to office 5-days-a-week by commuting or relocating, or they should resign.
Again, the answer is "no, you'll have to fire me."
