it's becoming apparent that we have like 5 classes of LLM haters
- the environmental fearmongering types who can't math
- the people who mistakenly think copyright is good for society and innovation and believe all output is somehow a stolen string of code
- the developers who are really into the compsci side and want all code to be perfect and concise (commendable, but unrealistic; these are the folks who should live in the university/research sector)
- the autistics who like the "puzzle" of chasing errors, diving into a debugger for hours on end and somehow derive joy from this
- the autistics who want to build a community around every git repo because their only friends are on the internet

@nprofile…y6jc fake it, and then update the post when the backend broadcasts the final version. or just don't expect to show the post you just made I guess and let the FE fetch it when the BE has completely processed it
expecting a submission to wait for expensive backend things to complete is really silly, I wish this wasn't the design

2026-03-23 22:14:50 GMT

on Pleroma if you make a post and mention a remote account of a user that does not exist it will make the submission hang for 5 seconds.
Mastodon likely has a similar problem because it's the same API implementation -- POST /api/v1/statuses has to return the status object you just posted (why?) and if there's a user you're mentioning that doesn't exist or isn't known in the local database it has to do the whole webfinger dance to look it up... which is SLOWWWWWW
you can validate this by trying to mention e.g., @[email protected] and click the Post button
This is retarded and bad design, so much processing could be involved in submitting a post. Returning the status should have been optional; posting should have been completely async

> Look, Pleroma is in no position to bake a feature, and say "take it, or leave it" and expect everyone interested to take it, or pull a Mastodon and force it on everyone through, the shear number of users. If you want to do groups properly, for which there is interest in the FEP community and also in the Mastodon community which used guppe quite a lot. I think it would best not to half-ass it and deal with the consequences later.
oh yes the FEPs, that's much better. Where cooperation == "discuss things to death, and then Mastodon ends up controlling the outcome anyway".
Before: Mastodon forces it on everyone through shear number of users
Now: Mastodon pretends to cooperate with the FEP process, and then essentially has veto power so they force it on everyone through shear number of users.
Like their Quote Posts. Do you think if Pleroma, Akkoma, and Honk showed up in the FEP process and said "this is terrible, you shouldn't do quote posts this way and you especially should not be trying to design features at the federation level that limit/restrict interactions to posts because it's an honor system and won't work anyway", that they'd have listened? Three votes from three stakeholders in the fediverse mean nothing when we don't have the userbase size of Mastodon.
At this point we either seize our own destiny or accept our fate as shit on the boots of Mastodon.

OpenClaw is fucking amazing. This is so ridiculous. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.
I installed OpenClaw on a Debian VM, opened up the web chat, and told it that I want it to build a bridge to DeltaChat to communicate with me as it's not an officially supported integration.
I told it to pip install the deltachat-rpc-server, communicate with it over JSON-RPC, read my blog post about DeltaChat bots to understand how to use the JSON RPC, and to register an account on my server and send me the invite link.
it worked. Fully autonomously. Built the integration, and now I have an AI assistant inside DeltaChat

Finally got a chance to start listening through the latest Ice Cube album Man Up and he seems pretty pissed off about modern stuff
Freedumb:
[Intro]
Why is the internet not working?
Why are you not working?
Why is the internet not working?
The same reason you're not working
Did you turn off the internet?
Maybe
[Verse 1]
Create a clone through this iPhone
It's the perfect device to get spied on
Swipe up, swipe down, pipe down
Type it in, never, ever write it down
Knowing, it's mind controlling
First you start scrolling, then you start trolling
Yeah, what you know about a prison?
Ain't no rhythm in this algorithm, no
It's about the vision
It's about to be a head on collision
Lost my religion
Motherfuckers gotta Google where God at
I despise that
He under my hat
He under your hat
He in your heart
I bust a rhyme that's better than Mozart
What I look like asking Chat GPT
"What was it like growing up in the CPT?"
[Chorus]
They hit me with that freedom
It don't cost you a penny to be dumb
They hit me with that freedom
What's the reason? That shit is treason
[Interlude]
AI is learning to escape human control
AI is in fact learning to escape human control
Human control, human control
[Verse 2]
L.A. to the bay back in '88 (Yeah)
I was there, nigga, fuck what your computer say
You'd rather ask a nerd like Zuckerberg
Go ahead homie, go and join the herd
You's a blue light zombie (Zombie)
Become an unhealthy, selfish as a selfie
Go ahead, ask Open AI
When you know that they lie about the fourth of July
Information artificial, blow the whistle
You know that we with you, go get the pistol
Shoot the fat screen first then the laptop
Kill your iPhone then smoke your Xbox
And when they call SWAT, here come the robots
Don't matter if the motherfuckin' door's locked
They shooting in the dark, ripping us apart
Motherfuckers only mad 'cause we too smart
[Chorus]
They hit us with the freedom
It don't cost you a penny to be dumb
They hit us with the freedom
What's the reason? That shit is treason
[Outro]
I think the most important thing to understand about AI is that AI is not a tool
It is an agent
What's the reason? That shit is treason

Would you be willing to skip upgrading your computer/laptop/smartphone for a year and give that same amount of money to Mozilla so they don't have to raise funds through ads or AI related partnerships?
We're talking anywhere from $500-$2000

@nprofile…sl3y wtf? I have never seen those ufs errors before
edit: granted, I mostly use ZFS these days but I still have some UFS servers and a couple jails

@nprofile…sl3y in FreeBSD, everything is in a jail technically. the PIDs are all global, they just have an additional identifier -- the JID.
So all normal processes are in JID 0

@nprofile…sl3y you can try, but I've always run into weird problems but it's probably really just systemd being a dickbag

@nprofile…sl3y you'll have to set a custom exec.start for the jail to NOT be the init, but something else (don't treat it like a VM)
also you'll want to set the persist; option on the jail in case you want to start it up with no processes running so you can poke around and figure out what you need to get it working the way you want

@nprofile…pvqa I remember when they actually debunked this but the internet still didn't believe it and still keeps pretending that this was a thing
> They told us the death was initially recorded as a COVID-19 death after the victim tested positive. After the medical examiner and epidemiologist reviewed the death, they say they removed it from the COVID fatality list.

@nprofile…tjca I have a 4TB that I suspected was dying so I pulled it with plans to replace it. Looking at the prices of drives now, it costs more than when I bought it in 2021...

Protip: deer don't know what your gun looks like. Having a camo wrap just means if you leave it behind by accident while hunting you'll just have a harder time finding it again.

@nprofile…4t3x hi hi hi I have news
I have a working implementation of Chatmail on FreeBSD now.
https://github.com/feld/chatmail-cookbook
I wonder if @nprofile…2pyj would be interested in hosting one on the BSD.cafe infra?
Note: it adds a custom package repo to fetch a couple things not in the ports tree right now (incl a Dovecot patch I need to see if we can get into the port or as a flavor). It's hosted on my home fiber internet, but it might be slow. I'm going to get it moved somewhere with better bandwidth soon.
edit: also the FreeBSD 14 package set is still building... 15 is ready though

These other projects *exist* but don't actually work with any groups directly to prove they're actually helping real humans solve real problems. Writing some code is only half the work.

@nprofile…d3ed @nprofile…pvqa oh fucking great so now we need to add a new column to the instances table so we can track which signature type was last known to work for them so we don't waste cpu and bandwidth
And they thought Bitcoin mining was a wasteful use of energy. Now it's shitposting.
