I'm in Cardiff, using the Gnome Podcasts app (https://flathub.org/en-GB/apps/org.gnome.Podcasts), and nothing has changed on my side during that period re ad-blocking etc. It's only the BBC ones that refuse to download so I think it's something their side...

I used to really enjoy some BBC podcasts but about a month ago they all stopped downloading. Missing #Walescast and #Gwleidydda
Anyone else experienced this? #Cymru

Hi @postmarketos, I have updates that can't be updated, namely, Gnome Application platform version 47 and 48. Is this expected/normal? #PostmarketOS

that might work for me, thanks for the suggestion! I will try it on my OP6 🤝
I'm hoping that a GUI route could be possible it, to suggest it as an option for less techie people 👍

Question about #PostmarketOS. Is it possible to install an admin user, and then have a (literal) child user with restricted access to installed apps etc?
I'm trying to figure out how to configure a relatively safe #MobileLinux system for young people.
For example, no access to browser until 13yo, blocking adult sites until 18 , using timekpr-nxt to limit use of phone etc

@npub1zdf…6u9l I've enjoyed reading your posts about Twitter and Mastodon. I browsed your website and was curious about what platform you use for your logbook? https://www.rollemaa.fi/lokikirja/
Thankyou!

my daily driver is a pixel 7 on @npub1kwa…e0nj which is brilliant but I'm a Linux evangelist and will end up doing things the hard way....but the satisfying way

the ubports one is very close to being my daily driver. I am certain it, or a postmarketOS if they can be done on pixel 6, will be great

Anybody know any Welsh language primary schools outside Cardiff that might be interested in trialling?

2024-12-12 16:56:50 GMT

In a Wales-first (and possibly UK-first?) I've created a micro-server for Mastodon to enable local primary school children to explore social media in a safe environment. It's not connected to any other server, so only children and teachers from that school can create an account.
I'll be sharing my experiences in a blog post in due course, in case it's of interest to others. Would love to have another Welsh language primary school interested so we could have multiple schools collaborating!

#UbuntuTouch is a stable #LinuxMobile system that offers many functions available on Android or iOS.
Despite it not - quite - being fit for a daily driver for me, I think it's an ethical and practical solution for parents who want to walk the tight-rope of phone ownership for their children.

Looks like the trees are being taken down on Neville Street, #Cardiff.
Two of our biggest urban challenges are excess heat, and management of water.
Trees - particularly mature trees - are a vital asset in keeping our urban areas liveable (and possibly glorious!) https://clubb.cymru/2023/08/14/preparing-for-50-degree-towns-and-cities/
I wonder what the strategy is with mature tree removal in #Caerdydd 🤔
*Edit at 1641h on 9 Oct. The reason for the removal is given as subsidence that damages nearby houses*

Ok #Fediverse, my 7yo son wants to be a 'YouTuber' 🤮 😢
I am telling him that #PeerTube and #Pixelfed are the way.
After a year of posting @npub1tr7…x9a7 he has 11 followers.
After a few months on @npub17n4…uds3 he has 2 subscribers (both are me).
Make a little boy happy and give him a follow 🙏 let's show him the future is federated!!

Really nice to talk to @npub1dyv…wvpj the other day about my butt....my #waterbutt that is.
He did a bit of videoing about how my 'system' works, including the overflow to the pond.
Here's an image to remind you that if you have the luxury of a garden, there's plenty you can do to turn it from barren to bio-tastic.
And if you want to hear about my water systems and the garden, there was a podcast about it earlier this year
