"It's probably mostly meant for kids" 🤔
Wildwood is rated PG-13 for strong fantasy violence/bloody images, thematic material, suicide-related material, brief partial nudity and language.

Oh, no, the cheap zipper on my overpriced rear rack bike bag broke! I guess I have to replace the whole bag!
Or I fix it with a heavy duty zipper, some superglue, needle, thread, and a pair of pliers.

I often wonder if the health benefits of riding my bike to work are outweighed by the car exhaust fumes I inhale on the way.
Although today, the car exhaust fumes are probably healthier than the air itself.

It's going to take another trip to the hardware store to get a few more fasteners, but I will have 3D printed my way to having a front rack on my e-bike without having to cut and cut and re-solder the line to the hardwired headlight.

"Ryan why don't you just buy a new fork with front rack mounting points?"
Because a new fork is (checks) several hundred dollars. 3D printer filament is $0.023 cents / gram.

The good news is the 3D printed fork mounts work as expected. The bad news is I need to design another widget to turn the light mounting screw hole into two screw holes.
Or make some way to mount it on the rack itself, at least until I can get a longer power cable to put it all the way out in front...

ADHD Ryan took over this morning and tried to install the front rack on his bike and now I'm driving to work today.
Oops.

what's funny is that the comment about why we were using hash() instead of the string was wrong. Of course the comment and the code was written in September 2020, so we were still on Python 2.7 and maybe the behavior was different back then...

2026-03-13 21:44:45 GMT

Somehow, a bug in our #python code - that a data checksum would return a different value for the same data in different Python processes - went undetected for six years.
hash() considered dangerous.
Whelp.

Yes, I did! But as far as I know, nobody has attempted to make them yet. You could be the first!

A2 I've made bike wheel lights from scratch. They're better and brighter than anything you can get online.
As for making your own gloves ... fuck around and find out! I used to make my own HEMA gear; I learned to sew to make it.
If you fail, at least you tried, and learned something in the process. If you succeed, you learned something AND you have something to show for it.
So go for it!

I may have put a notion in my sister's mind to get a cargo #ebike (meaning I would buy it for her family for Christmas) but I'm not too savvy on #cargobikes
For context she lives in a small, mostly flat town, all suburbs, five miles on a side. She's in her thirties, a teacher, and has two kids, eight and two.
Suggestions are welcome.

Last year, dissatisfied with the low quality of commercially available bike wheel lights, I set out to make my own.
Several kilograms of filament and several meters of LED strips later, I had a solution that worked. Bright, eye catching wheel lights that I only had to charge once a week.
I toyed with the idea of starting a small business to sell them online, but there were too many unknowns.
So I released them open source: https://www.instructables.com/DIY-3D-Printed-Rechargeable-Bike-Wheel-Lights/
Ride brightly, my friends.

One thing I need to test once I'm healed - My e-bike has thicker tires than your average acoustic bike. Not full on fat tires, but definitely thicker.
I wonder if this contributed to the crash, since I think the tires are wide enough that once caught in the train tracks they immediately stopped. I feel an acoustic bike with normal tires might not have had the same catastrophic deceleration and I would have had more time to react.

Has anyone ever tested if you can slow down or even crash #python by using an absurd amount of spaces per indent?

2024-10-11 02:37:14 GMT

Fair enough.
Now, imagine you're writing code where your users are in the same room as you and any bugs in production knock them off box and screws their weekly quotas.
That's what it's like developing in #vfx.

"most" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence. Especially if those cold areas are error handling.

OK... since the majority of y'all feel that 100% test coverage is a burden, how much coverage is enough for a #python package?

2024-10-09 21:34:25 GMT

Am I being unreasonable to expect 100% test coverage?
(excluding Qt/UI stuff which we don't have much experience testing)

What is the Zen of #python to you?

2024-06-10 14:57:33 GMT

Sometimes I think about the junior technical artist who taught himself #python and somehow did not learn that functions could take arguments and return values so instead did everything through globals.

else:
return False
or this
if (cond):
return ...
return False
