Checkout this experimental prototype I've been working.
Ephemeral chat.
It's super alpha, messy code and not optimized, but I've got some idea's to make it pretty cool.
It's kinda like hanging out at the water cooler. You only hear whats going on if you are there.
Its hard coded to connect to damus relay right now, but will make it so you can connect to any relay that supports ephemeral events.

Made a ton of progress on the NIP-29 strfry wire policy code today. I’m hoping to have it complete for testing tomorrow. I just need to also make some minor changes in @npub1see…exkf before I can really test it.
It’s been really fun to learn how strfry works and just the relay side of things in general. It’s also been a blast to write it in V-Lang. Such a fun language. It’s like C with some nice additions. Not to mention it’s super fast. The write policy code is about 700 lines so far. I think it will end up being about 1000 loc.

GM! I've been working on a strfry write policy in v-lang that adds Nip-29 support!
Simply add the binary (or build it yourself) and conf and update your strfry.conf to point to the write policy.

Took a little time this morning to figure out how to create a V-lang module that wraps libsecp256k1 so that it can be use in V-lang. Got it working!
Will table it for now and get back to Seer, but if you haven't tried V-lang it's worth playing around with. A C-like language that's super fast with a lot of nice things.

Relay devs sleeping on Redis's json document store feature. It's absolutely blazing fast, highly queryable and still open source via Redis Community Edition.
I took some time yesterday to do some testing on it and wow. It's really quite amazing. Simply create an index on all the needed fields and you have powerful querying capabilities. Even tags!
As part of my work on Seer and Nip29 Im also writing a Nip29 focused relay that's easy to run and it will use redisJSON as its db.

https://m.primal.net/KTou.mp4 I agree. I started a pretty interesting iOS app a while back which is a secure nostr keystore. Stores your private keys in iOS keychain. Then allows you to open various nostr web clients in wkwebview that support nostr extension. It injects nip-07 support so that the web client can talk to app and request signatures, etc. I also have an extension that will allow you to open a site from safari in the app.  It still needs a lot of love, but you can get the gist of how it would work. I may revisit it sometime.

Love this! I do the same. When my main project is getting bumpy I write something fun to get that win!
I’ve been wanting to build an open world space strategy game on Nostr where relays are different galaxies with randomly generated resources that can be mined via pow events. Haven’t really put much thought into it, but I will at some point. 😅

Just learned yesterday that swift has recently brought over some of the missing pieces of Foundation to open source side. This is great. Now with just a little finesse my swift Nostr Libraries should work across apple/linux/windows platforms. 😃 The missing piece was some of the networking api's like URLSessionWebSocketTask which is used in NostrClient. This allows me to only have a single third-party dependency in my libraries. (secp256k1.swift).
Down the road I will bring Seer to Linux and Windows Desktop.

Not a fan of RN. Feels like duct tape and fishing wire holding it all together. Dependencies galore. Feels like a security nightmare. Flutter and dart code feels overly verbose to write.
I’m biased because I’m a swift developer, but building with the native platform tools seems to always produce performance and results. Of course this means you need two codebases, however even that will be easier to maintain imo.
I also believe that in terms of UI, you don’t want it to look exactly the same across Android/iOS. Android users expect it to feel like a native Android app and iOS users expect it to feel like an iOS app. The platforms have their own UI nuances.
https://skip.tools is worth looking at though.
Nothing against RN and flutter devs. You do you, just not my cup of tea.

I haven't used value transformers before. Im going to look into them though.
Right now I have a handful of models that I create from events as they come in, then store them into SwiftData, but that code is getting overly complicated. So before I dig too deep Im experimenting with something that may or may not work.
Instead of having all these different SwiftData models, Im simply storing a single model for the event. Almost as it would be stored on a relay. One addition to the model is that I serialize the tags into a single special formatted string since trying to use a predicate on nested arrays might get messy.
The idea is that this keeps my data model more simple as well as code path where I store these events.
Then I will use the queries to map the stored event's into their more detailed object where needed.
The unknown I have now is if doing this will cause too much overhead on the UI. I just don't know yet, but my code is early enough that I can try it and if it works as I hope it does it simplifies the code around this a lot.

Yeah, it's missing somethings that would make life easier like conditional update/insert, explicit indexes ( I think it does some automatic indexing) and dealing with migrations seems more complicated than it should be. That said, it integrates so nicely with SwiftUI for me it's hard to not give it a go. Im going to keep going with it for now. The unknown for me is performance. I haven't had any issues there yet, but I haven't pushed it.
My fallback option will probably be Realm which I've used in the past and is quite nice.

Fighting with SwiftData this morning. When using predicate's for queries, etc it absolutely does not like computed properties. A pain in the ass. I really want SwiftData to work though because it so tightly integrates with SwiftUI.

Very interesting. Right now for Seer Im using SwiftData as the backing local db. Connections and subs are created like normal and then pushed into it. Locally I have live queries to SwiftData. It's actually working well so far, but I haven't really been able to stress it with data yet. So we will see... 😅

This is cool. Im interested more how this works at a high level. Do you have a local relay that then talks with all the other relays specified by the user? So note deck simply queries the local relay and as things come in from other relays they are shown?

So, I started Lume this morning and there was an update.
After the update actually the UI seems better. Before I did the update I was seeing stuff like this.

Im playing around with it now and those issues seem to be gone. It think UI is actually quite pleasing. Right now, I think my biggest issue is it's a bit confusing. However, that could just be because Im used to more "twitter" like UI's. I never really used Tweetdeck which I think this is similar too. I'll keep using it though and see how it goes!
I think there is a lot of promise here. 😃

Took a little detour today. I wanted to play around with SwiftUI's contentTransition effect. This can be used to animated text super easily. Think text rolling in as changes happen.
So, I wrote a quick little Apple TV app which simply gives you the real-time Bitcoin price. It just connects up Bitfinex's public web socket api. I'll probably release it soon just for the heck of it. I will also make it open-source.

I tried this recently and while it has promise, the UI is wonky to me. Not bashing on the dev, I just think it needs some UI love.
