- People keep calling this a return to “normal” debate and “civility.” I can’t wrap my mind around calling that firehouse of falsehoods and race driven scapegoating “civil.” Refraining from yelling and name calling while spewing lies and throwing fuel on the fire of the toxic ideas most likely to lead to violence is not civil. Why is anyone saying this.

- we should be shock-proofed at this point, but I confess was shocked by how willing—nay, eager—JD was to spend his only time speaking to a large mainstream national audience to say over and over that the cause of literally every problem we have is immigration. And to openly advocate for “mass deportation.” It’s bloodthirsty and terrifying.

- I know the republican party just lies all the time now, but JD really lied continuously, almost exclusively, for two hours.
A fact check of his debate performance would have to be checking to see if he stated any facts.

I’ve been trying not to imagine any “what if she wins…?” scenarios because I frankly just can’t bear going through the disappointment again. Oh yeah, I'd for sure bet there was late demand over the sell out cap. We probably also increased late demand by not selling out the last few years, since there wasn't a 'cost' to registering late in '22 or '23, so there was less pressure to make sure to buy a ticket early. (If that all makes sense -- I just got home around midnight yesterday and my brain is still a little soupy.)

I would guess that regional conferences also have the effect of fewer airplane tickets required in general? E.g. I'm assuming a much higher share of people drive to PyOhio or PyTexas than to PyCon US.

One of my theories about the late bump is that there are more population centers in easy-ish driving distance from Pittsburgh [eta: vs SLC], which means more people who didn’t have to commit in advance by buying plane tickets, so they could leave buying conference tickets until later in the game.
