nyc is really making compliance hard on this stuff. A 15 mph ebike rule where the rest of the country has a 20mph class 1 and 2 system. Now pedal bikes are supposed to hold a 15 mph speed limit? I don’t have a speedo visible ever on my bike, but i know that i quite casually exceed this speed at times on rides. Now to bike in central park i’m expected to strap a phone to my handlebars to make sure im not exceeding the speed limit?

i'm extremely skeptical of in-wheel motors for EVs in that weight range. Unsprung weight is generally a bad thing in the real world. "20 times faster independent wheel control" i'm not sure how that is even a meaningful improvement. The lordstown motors endurance tried to do it. Aptera is trying as well, but they are a lot lighter and have aerodynamic reasons to justify it

i haven’t tried these, but am quite a fan of the third eye clip on glasses mirror. it’s much more stable than helmet mounted. moving the mirror inboard means a much more substantial amount you must turn your head to see behind, which means it’ll work when you use it intentionally but have limited application for passively improving your awareness. Which could be fine depending on what you want out of it

I spent a lot of time working with people on what i think makes a good saddle but in the end it requires they try it out and find out that it works for them. If i were working in a bike shop again id love to have one of those memory foam sit bone measuring devices, then a small fleet of loner saddles. Cheap ones in representative shapes, you pay just above at-cost to “rent” it until you come back to buy a new one and get 100% of the rental cost applied to your new saddle.

the brands i have bought from have all had pretty “generalized” shape saddles that seem to work for me. It’s really hard to get people onto the right saddle unless they know what works for them coming in the door. Then again, maybe i simply don’t have the same experience as others, since i’m somewhere in the range that oem saddles tend to fit well. At least on higher end stuff, department store bikes tend to have vile saddles
