Ooo, Hesitation Marks is an interesting choice for NIN representation.

Oof, poring over the setlists, it’s so hard to pick a favorite.
Thursday we got “The Pass”, “The Trees”, “Anthem”, “Animate”, “The Garden” (I cried!), and of course the FULL “2112”! The transition from the Nixie tubes into 2112 at the opening of the second set was so fun. I could’ve done without “Passage to Bangkok”, but whatever.
Tonight we got “Dreamline”, “Headlong Flight”, “Red Sector A”, “Farewell to Kings”, and as much as I wasn’t all that excited at first for the Moving Pictures segment, I loved that new piano opening for “Camera Eye”!
I loved how playful Alex, Geddy, and Anika were throughout both shows. They have such good energy together! I’d love to have even half that spark at Alex & Geddy’s age.

Can confirm that seeing both #Rush shows this week was, in fact, the best idea. There were so many songs I loved that were only in one setlist or the other.

Good news: #Rush are just as excellent tonight as they were on Thursday. 🎸🥁🎶🤘

Awesome first day of #DjangoCon! I came away with some pointers to things I’m excited to check out, some affirmation and commiseration, and an incrementally larger social circle. Also, my employer is hiring, so I got to talk to folks about that too.

Gang, I am once again HYPED for #PyOhio! (In case you haven’t noticed from all the boosts lately.)
I’m also proud that we’re hosting it here in the lovely city of #Cleveland. Come on over, we’d love to have you join us! As usual, registration is free. Get all the info at https://pyohio.org or follow @npub1qme…rcum.
Can you believe this is our 18th PyOhio, without missing a year?? Where did the time go?

Not this week, but earlier this month, I was pleasantly surprised to discover skipIf and skipUnless in good ol’ unittest. I’d never needed them before and so hadn’t internalized them like I had skip! 😅 I was really glad to not write my own.

Not right now (no brain space at the moment), but in a month maybe.
I’d like an excuse to attend DjangoCon, so that’s on the list. And I’d also love to eventually do North Bay Python and PyCascades.

Yeah, so for context I started doing conference speaking around 2007, and have done basically everything except a keynote. Starting around 2018 I shifted more into the organizer side. My last new public talk was in 2019 (with an encore in early 2020). Part of the issue is figuring out what would be worthwhile for the audience, and part of it is wanting the new kids to get a turn too.

2024-09-14 00:41:27 GMT

I should really figure out something to give a talk on. I feel like I’ve accumulated a lot that might be valuable, but not sure what the right framing/angle is or what hasn’t already been done, better, by someone else.

I was an early adopter on Orbi since they used a dedicated radio for the mesh backhaul but a few years ago they started pushing out crap firmware updates that made my network reboot every 30 minutes or less. I ditched them for an Eero setup and have been happy since. Glad to hear Orbi has settled in and gotten decent again.
I would rather have run Ethernet in the walls when we bought the house, but nobody was doing residential installs in 2000.

Maybe you wanted to give a talk at #PyConUS or one of our friends like #PyTexas, #PyCascades, or #NBPy but it didn't work out? Maybe you saw or learned something that got you inspired?
#PyOhio is coming in July, and our CFP is open for the next ~20 hours -- we'd LOVE to hear from you while we still can! We gladly welcome speakers of all experience levels (❤️ new folks!) and a wide array of topics -- if you're excited about something, share it!
