@nprofile…z34k Unfortunately Samsung is not "developer friendly" .. They don't allow unlocking the phones to install a custom OS and then re-locking the bootloader with 3rd party signing keys, maintaining the #android security model

📣 New Motorola devices added to the CalyxOS support list! As we are trying to support as many devices as possible with regional and price diversity, you can now run CalyxOS on Moto G 5G (2024), g34, g45, g84. Read more: https://calyxos.org/news/2025/05/28/new-motorola-device-support/

@nprofile…zzna Thanks, we know - sometimes when Fairphone or Motorola release new versions of their stock Android that increase the rollback counter, we need to pull builds and make new ones with an increased rollback counter.

@nprofile…sd4j Flashing CalyxOS is enough to remove Google's changes. We planned to release another build with the opt-in charging limit feature that other devices have so that users can limit the charging capacity on their own

Are they though? But even so, we have been supporting non-pixel devices since almost the beginning, starting with Xiaomi, then OnePlus, and Fairphone and Shiftphone, and most recently some low-cost Motorola devices

@nprofile…qjre that is correct, it's a fork of the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) with many privacy enhancements. You can install it on supported phones ( which are relatively few - there is a list here https://calyxos.org/install/ ) or you can also of course optionally get another phone

@npub13ue…70dr yeah absolutely, that's what we attempted to work towards with AOSP alliance
https://github.com/AOSPAlliance/README/commit/504b449757bce99d279ae51cd7b2737095228d1d
but... for some reason, it didn't work out

2024-01-09 22:40:41 GMT

@npub16ql…r3s9 of course you can. The difference is the intention to include it in the OS, along with things like: support for encrypted signal calls in the dialer, panic functionality, client-side encrypted backups via seedvault etc. It's that we are trying to build a Mobile OS that curates a collection of FOSS tools which embodies "privacy by design" and makes privacy easier for average, less technical people

The software that enables the malware scanning is called Hypatia and is produced by @npub1nmj…fgyu Any new installation of CalyxOS from this version forward will be offered Hypatia during the initial set-up wizard. Older CalyxOS installations can add the software from @fdroidorg manually. We hope to promote the protection of endangered groups and individuals including civil society, human rights defenders, journalists, women and others.

We are excited to announce the latest update of @npub1ese…kv9r includes built-in real time malware and stalkerware scanning using malware signatures from @CitizenLab from "research on targeted attacks on civil society organizations", from @AmnestyTech "investigations in targeted threats against human rights defenders" and stalkerware database from @AssoEchap, a hacker-feminist collective that fights against the use of technology in gender-based and sexual violence.

So there is a lack of accessibility to folks in the #GlobalSouth in particular. These Motorolas cost around half of what the budget versions of Pixel phones cost and are sold in many countries in continents where Pixels are not, including in #SouthAmerica #Asia and #MENA
Thank you to #StartSmall and jack dorsey for believing in us, and for the funding that made this possible ! And a BIG thank you to our friends at @npub1j3h…2rp3 for their work on platform support for the Motorola phones

2023-11-21 01:01:21 GMT

Huge announcement ! @npub1ese…kv9r is now available for the Motorola G32, G42 and G52 ! Why is this a big deal ? Because it helps us further our mission of making #PrivacyByDesign available to the maximum amount of people around the world as we can..
Google Pixel phones are the default and easiest phones to support while maintaining the #Android security model with a locked boot loader and full verified boot. But they are only sold in around a dozen countries around the world...
