every time I read 💩 like this I can't help but equate these people with The Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal.

I've applied for oodles of state and county jobs at both OES and Dept of Ed and those never go anywhere. I think I got called for one interview and I managed to piss the guy off because I had an opinion on something. (shake alert vs my shake) so I've kinda given up on gubberment jobs at that level.

true, but crews assigned to structure defense will pick those homes most likely to survive:
good defensible space
no over hanging trees
tile/stucco
no wooden fence abutting the structure....
etc etc
if those light flashy fuels are somebody's yard.... structure defense crews are driving right past that house to something they might have a chance at saving.

because I have a semi medical background I tried taking a course in medical coding... omg .... so boring. I ended up dropping out [what a waste of money that was] I couldn't do that for 8minutes a day let alone 8 hours a day. [kudos to those who can - it just doesn't suit my temperament]

this new place, if I want to decorate outside for the holidays I will need to buy new stuff.... my wonderful lasers that I dearly love have nothing to shine on here.
The old place had two HUGE redwoods that I'd shine the lasers into and it made the trees look like they were decorated.
I'd hear people pass by and say "how'd they get the lights up there?" before they realized it was laser projections.
Only thing here is the ugly apartment building on the other side of the parking lot. The balcony is like 5 feet wide so not enough room for the lasers to disperse. 🤷‍♀️ ☹️

for some folks it's time. There are things I'd love to know how to do. Like excel at changing a tire or using jumper cables. I guess I could figure it out but there'd be a lot of swearing involved.
When I was younger there was nobody who could teach me those things. And now that I have people who can, and would, teach me those things? None of us have the time for any additional extracurricular activities.
Add to that list basic plumbing and wiring. I'm interested, but I'm either busy or exhausted.
And it's not something in my day to day life. 🤷‍♀️

while I'm not in the demographic you are looking for - I do know that many people just don't know what different tools are used for (or what they are called)
I mean improvising in a pinch is one thing but using the vise grips to drive in a screw when the phillips head screw driver was RIGHT THERE!! 🤷‍♀️
I think younger folk didn't have parents or grandparents that did much DIY/tooling around
