The Love Hypothesis Nearhan (@Nearhanuddin) LindyMan is completely right about marriage being mostly romantic now. All of these corrective measures and financial benefits offered by governments will fail. Idc how good Singapore’s algorithm is. Won’t work. — https://bitter.st/Nearhanuddin/status/2105146846901653673#m

Once the majority of cars in cities become self-driving and mandated by law because of safety-ism. There won't be any need for bike lanes anymore. You will ride your bike on the street like a car and feel complately safe. And Joh Forrester will finally be vindicated.

Blue Zones are unique in history. Their populations ate mostly plants or seafood, stayed active, and avoided diseases of abundance through adulthood. Then, as their countries grew richer, they ate much more meat and protein to prevent frailty in old age. Their longevity probably comew from changing diets at the right time.

Ross Ulbricht had one of the best accounts on here. He would tweet about what prison is like. he was sentenced to life. You could see his tweets grow duller and less interesting over time as the years took a toll. And then Trump gave him a pardon, set him free and now he never tweets anymore.

Iran right now knows Trump is too afraid to send in troops. 1,000 dead American soldiers would destroy his presidency. A war for Israel. Iran has no problem with casualties. They are defending the territory they have lived on for 3,000 years. There is no reason for Iran to negotiate for peace right now.

Barcelona may be the best city in Europe. It's not because it does one thing better than other cities. It just doesn't have any of the weaknesses of other places The climate is Mediterranean. So you don't get depressing 4 months of northern Europe. There are bike lanes everywhere and transit is excellent. Other med cities struggle with this It's an international city so it doesn't feel provincial Architecture is great It has a beach and a mountain in case you want to escape. The tourists and expats are segregated by the natives by one street called diagonal. Do you can see the indigenous people in their natural habitat undisturbed.

I managed to get data on referendums and direct democracy results from America and Switzerland over the last 200 years. Amazing how similar they are. Same patterns pop up. restrict taxes. strict on crime. strict on immigration. liberalize on culture issues but later than elites. voters prefer incremental correction if you let voters directly vote on issues, no matter what state, they skew conservative on most issues, but liberal on culture issues.

One of the simplest ways to blunt the effects of travel, gargle salt water as soon as you arrive and use a saline nasal spray. Travel exposes you to new microbes first in the nose and throat

A lot of gnosticism got kicked out of early Christianity (although some remains in 'eastern' varieties) but did flow into 12er shiism unrestricted. Henry Corbin does a good job about writing about it. Shiism maintains the third ontological zone ("imaginal") between matter and pure intellect. Or the psychical realm as described in western traditions

Mike Bloomberg's story on how he landed his first job on Wall Street is incredibly telling of just how much the job market has changed in finance As the story goes, Bloomberg did not know what to do with his life. A friend recommended Wall Street as a potential career option. To land an interview, he called up the firm and showed up to the office. Today, the base requirements for just getting an interview (not even the job) at a prestigious investment bank include: > Ivy league or equivalent college name > At least a couple of relevant internships > Finance clubs (these are often just as competitive to get into, depending on the school) > Perfect GPA > Sent at least a few dozen networking emails and had coffee chats with existing bankers Any successful candidate who ends up landing the job probably also spent a decent portion of their free time during school studying technical interview questions And given the timeline of internship interviews now, all of this needs to be done within your first 18 months of college. By the time you finish your sophomore year, most banks are done giving out offers The outcome is that students no longer get time to explore their courseload in the same way If you dont come into college knowing that you want to pursue investment banking, you are already a step behind most of your peers

Iran in 1979 had a revolution. Not too long ago. So you can study that one to see if this one will be successful. The entire oil sector went on strike, effectively shutting down the economy. At the same time, millions of people were in the streets, continuously, across cities and classes. There was one focal point. Khomenei There is none of that right now. Not even close. Maybe in 20 years though...

Being old and poor is the worst fate. People won't hire you for jobs. Your options for friends and love are limited. You feel pain more acutely than when you were young. Telling people not to save for retirement is one of the wildest things you can say. Something feels wrong about saying this and not facing any consequences if it doesn't happen.

Nostradamus wasn’t a prophet he was just someone who noticed events in history keep happening over and over and nothing can stop them. For example, in less than 90 years there will be a massive pandemic that kills a few millions people around the world A violent revolution will topple a dictatorial regime A great earthquake will devastate a city A large war will occur Lindy

If you read books on medieval pilgrimages, it wasn't just a piety thing. It got single men out of a surveillance state village. Leaving their village erased reputation, giving them anonymity among strangers. That anonymity loosened restraints, making gambling, drinking, and prostitution common along pilgrimage routes. Medieval society quietly tolerated this because pilgrimage functioned as a pressure valve for tightly regulated lives.
