Good news, chefGPT’s entres now contain less than 30% feces, on average! Plus, chefGPT now excels at hiding the taste of human fecal matter.
How every defense of “ai” and “agents” sounds to me.

2026-10-23 14:30:25 GMT

Techbros: Why do so many people pretend to hate AI but then turn around and use it?!
Same Techbros: Let’s force everyone to use AI for everything!

2026-09-29 01:56:21 GMT

When you input text into an LLM (“prompt” it) the LLM will output text or, if it’s hooked up to systems with credentials, do things.
The only meaningful connection between the LLM input and the LLM output is in your mind.
It is your intentional attitude, the disposition of your brain to attribute intentional states to just about anything, that does all of the meaning making.
The LLM is not following your instructions.
No LLM CAN follow instructions.
Ever.
In any way.
It is only a delusion.
Like when I used to tell my old car, “Don’t stall.” The car was always indifferent to my injunctions!
Just because LLMs output text makes no difference.

2026-09-27 03:30:20 GMT

Are LLMs capable of causing enormous harm?
Yes, they are stochastic parrots. So if human beings hook LLMs up to systems that are already potential instruments of harm they will cause harm, stochastically.
But what if we train the LLMs to be GOOD?
The harm isn’t the result of LLMs being good or bad. It’s the result of them being stochastic text extrusion programs.
(Fastidious Ignoring)
Is there anything we can do to prevent these harms?!
Yes, don’t hook LLMs up to potential instruments of harm.
I mean, like, but, is there anything ELSE we can do?!
No.

2026-09-27 03:08:49 GMT

Something I learned about LLMs in the last few years is that LLMs don’t change. They don’t change in response to interactions. Not in any meaningful sense. Each LLM is built (this is when “training” occurs) and then it remains the same from that point on. This is the model (m) in LLMs. There are other types of “ai” research, non-LLM research, that do actually change over time. But these aren’t LLMs.

2026-07-15 17:09:12 GMT

All of this!
Plus, measuring usefulness is a HARD problem.
Technically, logically, practically.
And yet techbros et al act like measuring usefulness is the easiest thing in the world. Not even an act at all, just an inescapable observation.
Simply asking whether they’re sure X is useful and demanding verification sends most of them into apoplectic fits of rationalization.
“Usefulness” always imports hidden values and principles and categories.
Whenever someone claims usefulness check on the hidden freight being towed along with it.

Turns out some of the text messaging from my local dealership’s service department is an LLM.
It made an empty appointment for me. The tech had no idea what I was there for. I told him that I was told via text message that my recall part had arrived.
Was the message from Lisa?
Yes
Wince - that’s AI. Let me see if it’s actually here. A lot times it says that it’ll order parts but it doesn’t.
Luckily, I had set up the order with a human being in person. Still there was no guarantee that the part had arrived as I’d been told.
Moral of the story - don’t interact with “Lisa”.
What a glorious future we live in.

Brother Bertimus
Yes, Initiate Humphrey?
I still don’t understand how it’s safe to consult a pocket demon for answers. Aren’t demons inherently deceptive?
Ah, but you see, the demonic will always hide their lies in many layers of truth so that their lies are not easily exposed.
Therefore, demons must always express more truths than lies.
So any particular demonic proposition is more likely to be true than false.
Forgive me Brother, but wouldn’t it be safer to avoid even an unlikely possibility of being led astray?
A good question, Humphrey.
Let us consult my pocket demon.

Even when working properly, LLMs “hallucinate”. It cannot be stopped.
This is the single greatest misconception I see.
The assumption is that hallucinations are a defect, an error that can be minimized or caught or mitigated.
This is absolutely false.
No LLM has any way to verify or error correct. All claims that they can are proven lies.
LLMs are convincing Ouija boards without the connection to reality provided by the players.
Stop assuming that LLM summaries or transcriptions were ever safe.

One of the lessons I learned from going back to school for CS was to be suspicious of code that worked as intended the first time.
Writing unit tests before or concurrently was critical to discovering ways the code might fail and in the process understand how the program was operating.
The meta goal became to automatically distrust things that worked without anyone knowing why.
Why?
Because if you don’t know why it worked before you have no idea if it will continue working.
All of the above was, “Everyone knows” status.
And then LLMs came along and everyone seemed to say, “Actually, forget all that and throw your integrity away.”
The transformation was invasive and pernicious.

I feel like so many people do not understand me when I tell them that LLMs cannot follow rules as rules.
And that this so pivotal that it’s a dealbreaker.
Because the vast majority of things people want from computers inescapably depend, oftentimes without their realizing it, on rule following - either because the program is a set of rules (a standard program) or because it is (the user supposes) an entity capable of following rules as rules (rather than by chance).
It’s an epistemologist’s nightmare and like all great nightmares most people don’t get what the big deal is.

I still hate everything about Apple’s Liquid Glass UX. Not simply out of taste, it actually looks kind of pretty.
But because it sacrifices readability, utility, and comprehension for prettiness. Because it is a nightmare for anyone whose eyes aren’t those of a 100% abled 25 year old.
Because it is a perfect example of a company that used to put time and effort into their products deciding that they just don’t give a fuck.
Because I am fairly locked into that company’s products because of decades of monopoly-friendly federal SCOTUSes, Congresses, and POTUSes.
Because at least half of the Americans who agreed with me over that time rejected their civic responsibilities and let everything slide in favor of expressing impotent rage.
And so now I have Apple’s Liquid Glass on my increasingly less usable phone.
And when I eventually update my phone? It will also have even more brain parasitic, useless, “ai” bullshit wedged into every crevice and orifice regardless of user preference.
Why? Because of white supremicist billionaire techbros hellbent on a eugenics/cyber-immortality sci-fi vision of their own personal Epstein island futures.

NATO is over now.
I don’t know if everyone gets that yet but it’s true.
Europe should found a replacement alliance (it should include Ukraine).
The UK should join it but if it won’t there should at least be Commonwealth replacement military alliance. Unless there is one that I’m not aware of.
The US will not and should not be trusted. Even if a miracle happened and we cleaned this all up over the next 10 years or so - the damage is done.
At best, it would take the US 2- 3 generations to get passed the cluster fuck American voters fell for again.

Their idea is that you will stop caring about other people and become more racist as you become more desperate.
I've met a lot of white people who think of themselves as enlightened on social issues but denigrate caring.
They argue that caring and empathy are merely admonitions to be nice and to not say or do things that make racists and misogynists uncomfortable.
I have argued with them that they are misunderstanding empathy/caring.
People who care tell assholes to fuck off. People who care fight harder, dirtier, longer for others.
Because they care. Because they maintenan empathy.

The collective, emergent (and often gaslit) povs of groups is the ultimate cause of most social change.
So it makes a whole lot of sense to get as many people as possible comfortable with the idea that they should ask a named, disembodied, corporate demigod their questions and then trust whatever answers it gives them.
When I blather on about the degradation of epistimic hygiene, about intellectual dishonesty, about poisoning collective knowledge, I'm talking about something serious.
If someone walked up to you with a colorful, distracting, and disarming mask on and tried to tell you what to think and feel - how would you respond?

The people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meatpacking plants, who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shifts in hospitals. They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes, and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches and mosques, synagogues, gurdwara, and temples. I ask you to have mercy, Mr. President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away, and that you help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here.

Been seeing some esoteric media analysis that argues that what we have today, for the past decade or so, is a hyper celebrity culture (including influencers etc).
When you're a fan of a celebrity you discount their red flags and amplify their (perceived) strengths. Your fandom may become part of your identity.
Probably, Republicans like Reagan and Trump have a huge impact on the base precisely because they are/were celebrities. Bush II, on the other hand, is completely forgotten - almost as forgotten as Bush I.
Meanwhile, the last time Democrats had a celebrity nominee was probably Kennedy (war hero and author and attractive).
I think one of the reasons for this is that Democrats don't just vote (in primaries) for celebrities because they're celebrities. Republicans sure seem to.
If you had godlike powers and could make any celebrity (or influencer, ect) the figure head and future nominee of the Democratic party, who would it be?
Please post below (or tell me why this is silly).

Capitalists hate capitalism.
John Locke's ideas about property rights are used by capitalists a lot but they never quote the parts of Locke where he stipulates that the right to property only obtains when everyone has an equal opportunity to acquire property.
For some weird reason that bit is always left off (going all the way back to Locke's time).
So weird.

Millions of Americans are worthy of a government that is morally decent, uncorrupted, responsive and professional.
However, they don't make up a majority. The majority deserves the kakistocracy they just elected.
The US is not alone in this pattern. Improve yourself and/or help others to be better versions of themselves.
We cannot magically get a morally decent, uncorrupted, responsive and professional government from nowhere.
We, personally, have to grow communities that are worthy of such governments.

It feels like the Twilight Zone.
People acting as if normal rules still apply, as if it makes sense to fight the old battles in the old ways.
A majority of Americans don't understand that they're fascists.
Yet.
Find new ways to get through to people.
If it still makes sense to fight a particular old battle, find a new way.
But make sure you're focusing on the basics, keeping people alive and protecting as many of their rights as possible.

Sometimes I reach the conclusion that economic life in the US, as bad as it is, still isn't bad enough for the majority to want systemic change.

I have a background and education which is maximally steeped in esoteric, abstract, theoretical, hypothetical, ideals.
It is impossible to find an academic field more esoteric while still offering academic credits.
And yet when I talk about being pragmatic I still get the sense that people without my background think I've given up on high minded principles too quickly.
My dude, I investigated that project more than you will ever know was possible.
And I'm telling you all, again, what matters are people, our relationships, our lives, our dignity.
When you cut off your nose to spite your face, it's not nearly the good look you think it is.
People will blame everyone but themselves but what really matters is if they can stop theorizing and complaining long enough to focus on helping people here and now in this current situation with all of its horrible constraints.
If not, they're worse than useless.

Operation Legacy
Operation Legacy was a British Colonial Office (later Foreign Office) programme to destroy or hide files that would implicate the British Empire in wrongdoing, as to prevent them from being used by their ex-colonies. It ran from the 1950s until the 1970s, when the decolonisation of the British Empire was at its height.

Over the next few months we'll be hearing the astonished screams of the nonvoters (and some Trump voters) who either didn't believe us or never heard us (because of their highly curated ignorance).
While I don't really enjoy schadenfreude I won't have much sympathy. And just to start off what will be an endless refrain:
We fucking told you.

Way too many people frame voting like a Yelp review, like following an influencer, liking an artist - an ultimately inconsequential act that says more about your brand identities than anything substantial.
And if they aren't sufficiently titillated, they keep scrolling. Because nothing bad will happen.
Nothing bad CAN happen. Because everything about my status quo is set in stone. Because "the people" won't let crazy shit happen.
Sometimes individuals who are modestly comfortable (usually because of their parents, ethnicity, luck, etc) have almost no imagination. Because they cannot even entertain the idea that the foundations of their lives will crumble because of their privileged presumptions.

PSA:
Never take someone's style or apparent rage as proof that they are actually anti-fascist.
For instance, no actual anti-fascist would pass up any opportunity to vote against fascists.
So we know there are far fewer anti-fascists than there are people claiming to be anti-fascist.
What is a person who swears they are anti-fascist but isn't?
A secret fascist.

Hey, fellow white Americans:
If you're wondering, "What now?" Think about how Black Americans have survived in the US, especially pre Civil Rights Act era.
If you're thinking about the post Civil Rights Act era, you are not going back far enough.
To be honest, it might be best to think about how Black women in particular survived. Or how women in general survived pre Roe and pre no-fault divorce.
You need networks of trustworthy friends and relations and allies who help each other without bringing attention to that fact and as untraceably as feasible.
People to be suspicious/careful around:
People who voted for Trump
People who didn't vote for Harris
People who don't understand what is happening now
They may mean well. They may be decent people in every other aspect of their lives.
But if they screw you over unintentionally - you are still just as screwed.

The stronger Boeing unions are, the safer Boeing planes will be.
If you don't see why that is automatically, think about it for a minute.
Now imagine strong unions throughout the tech sector and what that would mean.

That's not who I am. I just don't care that much.
So sometimes people here are reacting to something I haven't seen or messages that I don't know about and couldn't care less about.
Like unity after the botched assassination. Unity against MAGA fascist jackasses? Definitely. Unity with them? Fuck that.
But am I supposed to get worked up about this? Of course uniting with fascists is not something I'm going to do. It's just ridiculous.
