Incredible work from @nprofile…m3zk breaking down the foolishness of the #Iran War, starting with a nuanced summary of the Cuban Missile Crisis as a point of comparison.
Politics and especially war are full of ugliness and lies, but it doesn't have to be so fucking dumb 🫠
"looking back, we know that Kennedy and Khrushchev lied to avoid war. Here, we can plainly see that Trump and Netanyahu are lying to instigate it.”

We (@nprofile…uzsw) are trying to set up RSS to “Whatsapp Channel“ automatic posting so people can subscribe to our latest articles there.
Anyone have this working without a huge cost and/or super complex setup?
Seems like IFTTT has no support, and neither does our overpriced social media manager platform (SocialBee).
Thanks for any leads!

This sets aside, of course, “copyright” type ethical concerns, but at least if you inform your audience that you used gen AI tools, they have the chance to judge you on this as well.
As the use of these tools is normalized, my biggest hope is we can at least maintain transparency about what was and wasn't created by a human.

Disclosure has always been my bright line for generative #AI: If you disclaim it’s use, there’s no ethical problem between you and your audience. There are often other problems, like them being annoyed and/or ignoring the content, but it’s not an ethical issue at that point.
If one actually does this kind of disclosure, one is of course demotivated to use gen AI at all, and in many cases, one will opt to just write the paragraph/email/excerpt rather than write the disclaimer.

As a #journalism project, we at @nprofile…uzsw are creating our "AI policy". It's not easy, as contributors use #AI in many ways that are grey areas.
I love this line from the Guardian's policy:
> If we wish to include significant elements generated by AI in a piece of work, we will only do so with clear evidence of a specific benefit, human oversight, and the explicit permission of a senior editor. We will be open with our readers when we do this.

Anyone know which of these two list styles for complex lists is more readable in terms of usability/accessibility/psychology?

“Eventually, I realized, the difference between the people wanting a better future and those in power, deciding on our behalf, is that we let the ghosts of the past torment us, they don’t. And so tormented by the past we will continue to live, in the shadow of decades-old scars and trauma.”

Just to be clear: Mickey Mouse being in the public domain doesn't matter and never did, other than Disney being the antagonist promoting copyright term extensions over the course of the 20th century.
What matters is the literally endless list of other works that were kept out of the commons because of Mickey.
Mickey was a reverse-canary in the coal mine. Now that his copyright is finally dead, the rest of culture can finally breathe free.

@npub1g57…y839 @npub18du…9g4e I think the general assumption would be that Canadians would be angry at Meta and use Facebook less. We had MPs calling for people to boycott it! IME my fellow Canadians were overall anti-Facebook and pro government on the topic, but in the end they clearly just don’t care (or already weren’t using Facebook).
Aside from that, the whole law presumed that Facebook was benefiting from news, so if it had no effect on traffic, it seems to disprove the main premise.

They are all #wholesome, and most of them talk about #tech and #politics in various ways, as well as sharing fun stuff too. As always with mastodon, if you’re just getting started,
just follow lots of people without stressing about it, then unfollow anyone you find boring just as easily!
