Jan-Willem Markus

My name is Jan-Willem. My formal education is in electronics, and I currently work in hardware security. I've got a large interest in all types of security, from physical to chips, and hardware to general infosec.

This Mastodon profile is for post random things about myself and my life and my hobby projects. Sometimes I make stuff from metal, other days I print stuff in plastics. As a lockpicker, I'm part of The Open Organisation of Lockpickers (https://hsnl.social/@Toool), of which I'm currently the president.

@nprofile…58n4 Copyright isn't a bad thing. It is bad now as monopolies of companies license artists work to themselves, so they have to share less of the profit with the artists.

I wish more of the effort of LLM was put towards making search better. As in when I search for 'high voltage DC power supply', it should understand I'm not looking for 'high precision AC power supply' or 'high power something'. From there we can have it learn component families, give equivalent suggestions, and near neighbors.
And no, I don't want to 'chat' with an LLM assistant.

The building I have an apartment in started cocooning. I hope it becomes beautiful, but I'd be a bit sad if it grows wings and starts flying away.

@nprofile…mv7s From a distance you seem to have control over the situation. But I guess we are a like in that we have a lot of generally worthless objects which are also impossible to acquire.

My go-to solution for project storage is the smallest sizes of IKEA Samla. This works fine until you have a large collection of (un)finished projects.

For the hackerspaces open day I've visited @nprofile…k5z8 in Nieuwegein. The space is in an old bank building, thus I want to share pictures of their vault. It's a Martens vault door from 1982.

@nprofile…8x2j I love the coaster and mug. I've just placed my first order at Thorlabs, laser goggles, and have received my first supply of lab snacks.
