My problem with Signal is that it's under U.S. jurisdiction. The development, the non-profit, and the business — all of it is American. The servers that your messages pass through are also located entirely within the United States.
We currently have a fascist regime that is demanding corporations and organizations comply with their outrageous demands. Under our current legal system, you can be ordered to comply and prohibited from warning or informing anyone.
Those are just the facts.

Ambulance without insurance cost me once 10,000.00 I had been in a car crash as a passenger (not the driver), and supposedly we were outside their zone for the nearest hospital and it counted as an extended service.

Perhaps that's why people in Japan live longer.
In the United States, you see one doctor who tries to be the doctor for everything and everyone. In Japan, you have a specialist for anything that troubles you. We have specialists here, but you often have to be referred to them.
I imagine it also helps that you guys have universal healthcare here. In the USA, you can go bankrupt just going into an ambulance.

5 years ago, the world experienced a global pandemic. And 5 years later, there are still people trying to spread misinformation. Only now, it’s considered opinion — protected free speech — and not misinformation.
Over 1,000,000 people died of COVID in the United States, and more than 60,000 in my small state of Massachusetts, which is comparable to a whole city being wiped out.
Yet these people are praising Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for trying to shut down programs within the CDC and end support for vaccines. And my job requires I just let them spread their misinformation and lies.

Hate speech should never be accepted as free speech — never.
Officially, we technically do not allow hate speech, but in practice, we do. Meaning, while someone cannot use the "N" word, there are many other ways people can be hateful and cruel, and those used to be removed. But now the trolls and the bigots are given wide berth, and I hate it.
I have gotten away with removing some of the more aggressive jerks, but not without the worry and risk of being reprimanded. There are so many times I want to take action, but my hands are tied, so I have to be selective and careful. It should not be like this.

Around the time of the pandemic, I started working for Meta full-time and Alphabet (Google) part-time. I stopped working for Alphabet years ago, but I still work for Meta.
The amount of information we collect on people is disgusting and disturbing. Much of it, people are willing to give up without giving it much thought. Perhaps not always imagining that we retain that information for years, and it collectively builds. However, I was also surprised at how many ways we collect information without people even realizing.
Less than a month into my job, I tried warning every friend, family member, even neighbors not to use the service. It is concerning how many people just don't care one way or the other.

I am an American, and I will warn you -- Do not come here!
We've locking up people who have Visas, who paid the fee, who passed the interview, who have never once wished us harm, or spoke out against any political party.
None of that matters.
You can be locked be for just being brown. Or can be white, and still be locked up, because the person checking visas is in a bad mood. Or, in the case of a recent Canadian, didn't respond well when someone was trying to flirt with her.
And once locked up, you can pretty much vanish in the system for days, weeks, or even months without a phone call.
Do not come here.
This is not the United States you know, or thought you knew. We're a nation gone insane, and it is not safe to come here.
Some of us would love to leave here, and we would if we could.

At one time, many domain name registers, offered the service to be that supplied contact, allowing anyone outside of Germany and Europe, to register a .de domain name.
However, today, I cannot find a domain register outside the United States that offers this service.

That’s true — all gTLDs (generic top-level domains) fall under ICANN contracts, which are U.S.-based and require things like data escrow and participation in U.S. law–based dispute resolution. So even if the registry operates outside the U.S., it’s still tied to U.S. jurisdiction.
Where you start to see more independence is with ccTLDs (country-code domains, the two-letter ones). These are managed directly by governments or their appointed authorities, which means they’re not bound in the same way to U.S. legal frameworks.
That’s why, if digital sovereignty is important to you, ccTLDs are the better choice.

Identity Digital accounts for roughly 30% of all word-based domain name extensions. But they’re not alone — many other word-based extensions are also managed or sponsored by U.S. corporations, which places them under U.S. jurisdiction.
Digital sovereignty is important. That’s why I recommend avoiding word-based domain extensions, as well as .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, and .edu, all of which are governed under U.S. jurisdiction.

How to have a website outside the Jurisdiction of the USA. 👍
1) Choose a domain registrar outside the USA.
Make sure the company has no business offices, trademarks, patents, or copyrights in the United States. Carefully review their Terms of Service (TOS) and privacy policy. If you find any references to the USA, move on.
2) Select a non-USA domain.
Avoid extensions like .com, .net, .org, .info, .us, and .edu. Also, steer clear of word-based domain extensions (.social).
3) Use a web hosting provider outside the USA.
As with the registrar, ensure the provider has no business offices, trademarks, patents, or copyrights in the United States. Again, review their TOS and privacy policy thoroughly.
4) Be cautious with additional services.
Most hosting providers include DNS and email services, but if you use a 3rd provider or a CDN, make sure they are also outside the USA. Check their TOS and privacy policies as well.

Digital Sovereignty is important, considering my government (the United States of America) is no longer the consumer-friendly, business-friendly, democratic nation it once was.
And being overseas does not mean a company is outside U.S. jurisdiction.
Proton is a good example of that. They started in Switzerland, and if they stayed in Switzerland, or expanded elsewhere except the USA, they would never have fallen under U.S. jurisdiction.
OVH, sadly, also now falls under U.S. jurisdiction. Originally, their American servers were not their own. OVH leased them as a customer, the same way you would lease a server, but resold those services. A bit of a gray area, but if U.S. laws or policies became a problem, they could pull out—the same way you'd cancel a subscription. Today, however, OVH Cloud has datacenters, offices, and is registered in the USA, which places them under U.S. jurisdiction.
Once you're here, as far as our legal code is concerned, you're our b*tch. Don't come here.

When you visit Facebook.com, you see nothing — just a screen asking you to sign up or log in.
Friendica does the same thing.
I prefer a transparent Fediverse — one where, before I decide to sign up and share any details about myself, I can see what kind of community you're running and who’s part of it.
For example, I watched Mstdn.ca for nearly a month before joining. I knew who the staff were, what kind of posts they liked or shared, who appeared to be active, whether the space was fairly moderated, whether there was any drama, if people's privacy was respected, and generally what kind of content was welcomed.
Fedi sites like Friendica lack that transparency. You join and just hope you didn't unknowingly make a mistake.

Every once in a while, someone says something like:
“I do this, and that makes me safe from Facebook’s prying eyes!”
It’s all complete nonsense.
If you use our Meta products or services in any manner, we know who you are, where you are, what you’re doing, who your friends are, and so much more.
I am so confident of that fact that, as a Meta employee, I have been warning people about what we’re doing, and I know my job is still safe and secure.
Because, will everyone leave Facebook? Nope!
Meta is like a drug to which many people have become addicted and rely upon. There are entire nations that use WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger for everything.
I’ve told people we are working closely with the United States government. We are actively building lists that Donald Trump could use to single people out. And people are still using Meta.
But ultimately, you need to accept there is nothing you can do to keep us from knowing everything about you while you continue to use Meta.

I’ve tried to, dumb this down so everyone can understand why Donald Trump won.
First and foremost, nearly everyone was tired of the status quo.
Second, people want a hero — or an anti-hero — to escape from that status quo.
Donald Trump is a monster, but for many, unfortunately, he was the only hero or anti-hero available.
Kamala Harris was right about one thing: We're not going back. And by that, I mean we're not going back to the status quo. Business as usual is what the American people have been rejecting.
Democratic leadership has shown no interest in offering the American people anything new. They wanted business as usual before Trump, and they still want business as usual after Trump.
Lacking a hero — or an anti-hero — the people will elect whichever side provides one, because the need to escape the status quo has only grown — even more so as Trump continues to prove himself a monster.
If it's not progressive, it will be conservative.

Following up on my little test. I tried to register the domain:

It went as I suspected, as every domain register that I looked into, asked me to verify my EU Citizenship.
As I stated in my first reply, .EU is not currently available to everyone. No, because as of 2021 (post-Brexit), only residents or entities within the EU/EEA or specific eligible countries can register a .EU domain. Meaning, it is not currently available to everyone.
As of .IT ... registration used to be restricted, but it’s now open to all individuals and organizations in the European Economic Area (EEA), Vatican City, San Marino, and Switzerland. Like .EU, if you're outside Europe, it is not available.

Hypothetically speaking, if Mastodon ever became evil, there is always Misskey, which can effortlessly communicate with existing Mastodon sites (no bridge needed).
That's the wonderful thing about the Fediverse. There is always another alternative. But corporate sites like Blue Sky — you're their bitch, and your only choice is to put up with their shit or go without.
That's the difference. On the Fediverse, you always have choice, and you always have a say. But with corporate social media, you're at their mercy and their whims.

I always give people a way to test this themselves.
Those ads you see? They're not random. If you're a gamer, for example, and you often talk about gaming, there's a reason your ads reflect that.
WhatsApp is free because you are the product. And even if you're paying for the business version — you're still the product.
There's too much money to be made for you not to be the product. And there's too much legal liability for us to turn a blind eye to what's happening on the network. So even if there were no profit in it (and there is), we'd still be watching — because we have to.

WhatsApp's privacy promise is a legal illusion.
At WhatsApp, we say: “We don't share your data outside of WhatsApp.”
That's technically true — only if you ignore the fact that WhatsApp is part of Meta, and everything is shared within Meta.
But it doesn't stop there. We also share data with external partners — and with governments. It's all in the fine print.
So no — your information isn't “private.” It's just being passed around — internally and externally.
It's not pure end-to-end privacy. It's end-to-end ownership and oversight. Yes, your messages are encrypted — but everything still passes through us.

Whenever I say this, I seem to upset someone. The reason it upsets people is that they want to believe the lie.
Belief can be both powerful and dangerous. Anyone who believes that we cannot see everything you say or share on WhatsApp has been deceived.
Many of my fellow Americans wanted to believe that COVID was “just a cold.” Five years later, there are still people who cling to that belief — and they get upset if you say otherwise. Belief can be a foolish thing, just as it can be a dangerous one.
Spying on you is profitable. But it’s also a legal requirement: under U.S. law, any provider can be held liable for what happens on their network. So the logical business move is to monitor everything — while claiming they share “nothing.”
Signal is not owned by Facebook, but it’s still based in the United States. I wouldn’t trust them, either — for the same reason you cannot trust us.

People documented the changes today.
At one point, the text body abruptly stopped mid-sentence.
The restored text (as of the time of this post) is also missing a word space — clearly the result of someone copying and pasting in a hurry. Just as they were likely in a hurry when they removed the text in the first place.
It would have been more "believable" if they had claimed they were hacked — though even that would be suspicious, considering the only sections removed were the ones Donald Trump dislikes.
But the whole "coding error" excuse is exactly that — complete nonsense.

Nothing would prevent Australia from blocking your site, but it would be better if they did so themselves, rather than you doing it for them.
If you block access, you're assuming both the cost and the responsibility — and arguably complying with their foolish law when you're not actually required to.
Moreover, if Australia begins a broader campaign of blocking, its citizens may rally against the government's overreach. In that case, the government can't simply deflect blame by saying someone else acted on their behalf.

However, if your website is not based in the UK and you are not a UK citizen yourself, you do not have to accept it.
No country — Not Russia, the USA, China, and even the UK — rules the world. Therefore, no single country can make laws that apply to the entire planet and all of its 9 billion inhabitants.

Right now, if you have an Android Phone and have any META apps -- Without opening them, check if they are running.
Power off and power on your phone (reboot), and they will still be running on their own.
Proceed to put your phone down on the table without opening the app and talk about something random. DYI Projects, for example. Do this for an hour or so, and wait.

I know that Walmart is likely spying on my shopping habits, but it is the more affordable and convenient store in my area that offers home delivery. Instacart is the alternative. There is no alternative to Uber or Lyft.
But I can avoid GOOGLE who just like META is working with our government. I know, because I am an employee. I used to work part-time for Alphabet and still work full-time for Meta. I also know those two companies collect so much more data than Walmart, Uber, Instacart, or Lyft. And what they do collect usually relies upon Google Play Services.
So yes, I'm going to minimize my reliance on the official Google, anything. Because when I worked for Google, much like now working for Meta, we have so much info on you, you'd think we were a government agency, by comparison.

Using the Aurora Store and microG is not the same thing as using the official Google Play Store and Google Play Services.
There is a difference and I want that difference.
I get that you put in effort to make sure people can sandbox these things, but some of us want more than be told a sandbox is enough.
microG works so I can use my Instcart, Walmart, Amazon, and Uber. Those are sandboxed, but they're not connecting with the official Google nonsense.
Again, there is a difference and I want that difference.

An anonymous, temporary account that is often shared by others, and which I do not register or log into, and cannot be found anywhere else on the phone except within Aurora, which I can clear by wiping the cache and storage of the app.
It really does fit my needs and wants.
Sure, the few apps may be looking for the other half of Google's libraries, but they're not really there, and are only tricked into believing they are with microG. Furthermore, microG is not automatically calling out to Google in the background in the manner that Google's official apps are, nor continuously pinging back to Google (I've checked my traffic logs).
The apps complete their minimum function and that is all I want or need them to do, while not being made by Google. It is both the practicality and the principle.

No matter what Android ROM you use -- Always replace the stock apps.
Phone? Replace it.
Messenger? Replace it.
Contacts? Replace it.
File Manager? Replace it.
Launcher? Replace it.
Keyboard? Replace it.
Never trust the default apps that come with ROM (any ROM).
If you cannot disable the default app, remove every permission associated with it. But if you can uninstall it using ADB, do so.

True, it may not validate, but I do not do banking on my phone. I just need the bare minimum to get apps to work without using Google's actual software, and do not care if someone says:
