Hamstr supports login with Alby. You should see a "Login with extension" option if Alby is detected. Which browser are you using?

Virtual relays are certainly an interesting idea, but will definitely require some thought into how these are packaged and presented to the user. Having some sort of compact visual representation of which relays served a particular note is a good start. Maybe I can experiment a bit with the "overlapping dots" suggestion.

The tagging component would be great for sure! There are also a bunch of other low-hanging fruit to implement such as liking or deleting a post, which should be quick and easy and a good starting point to get your feet wet.

Hamstr does currently not implement tagging correctly when creating posts. It will render "@<pubkey>" as a link in the final post, but this will not generate a notification for the tagged user. It's at the top of my list of post features to implement.

Hamstr is in an early stage of development, so a lot of stuff is still broken or missing, but I'm working hard to improve things.
Login via browser extension is actually supported. If the extension is detected you should automatically see the respective login option. Which extension were you using?
Posting is indeed in a very primitive state right now, not even tagging works. If you embed links to images, Hamstr will render them though (in the final post), but it's clearly not a great solution. Hope to get around adding more post features soon 🙏

Regarding your comments:
- This definitely shouldn't happen. With "reset" you mean it is empty after you login? Do you see your profile picture and name?
- They don't. Notifications are not implemented yet beyond the basic list of somewhat relevant items (which doesn't even update by itself right now 🙈).
- Yes, the lightning invoices are actually a remnant of the astral-based prototype. I'm going to replace them at some point with something more compact.
- Hashtags are probably still a bit down the road, but certainly planned.

Yes, right now only bech32-encoded keys are supported. "nsec" is the prefix used to denote bech32 private keys.

Without having run any benchmarks, a database bottleneck might be that astral is storing events as JSON strings, making it necessary to call `json_extract` for every single property access which will impact performance. You could instead try to store the individual event properties into separate columns/tables, which should not only help with performance but also make the queries cleaner.

The initial prototype of Hamstr was basically just a new UI on top of the existing astral logic. Since I had forked the repo before your recent performance improvements, I ultimately decided to start over from scratch. I'm still using the same quasar tech stack though.
