I wrote up my review of Karen Hao's recent book, Empire of AI, which is all about OpenAI, Sam Altman, and LLMs more generally.
Very well written and researched. Quite scary conclusions. She makes a convincing case that modern AI companies are closer to European countries in their attempts at empire-building and colonizing vast swaths of the public.

Personally I don't get that excited about new tools, but uv is an exception. It feels, so far, like the answer to so many Python challenges we've had over the years: Python versions, dependencies, works on my machine, and speed.

@nprofile…m624 I'm almost done and the tl;dr is that capitalism has transformed into a new form of digital feudalism, where "cloud capital" and "cloud rent" dominate. Instead of actually providing services or actual goods, digital marketplaces just extract rent. And this has led to record inequality, etc etc. That's the general idea.
