Beat the System Shock remake. Quite good, had to consult a walkthrough a few times due to missed doors. Tons of backtracking, but that's the game.

Playing the new System Shock (runs fine with wine-tkg+dxvk). It's really good, very maze-like and the 6DOF descent-like hacking mode makes it feel retro but otherwise is graphically very pretty with a low-poly, high-lighting aesthetic.

@npub1kre…6436 yes, this is a valid idea. The issue is when you have to make lots of one-off assets and unique effects to make that interesting. Though, I think a walking simulator would lend itself to creating a highly stylized aesthetic that fits the limitations of the color palette.
Alternatively if I put in the work to make a traditional FPS, I can just start throwing a basic boomer shooter together.

im trying all sorts of techniques to try to produce reasonable SFX with a PC speaker. I tried aubio's pitch tracking tool and it just produces garbage. I question how possible it is when you don't have volume control. If I could just control the PC speaker manually I could probably make something sound good but from what I can tell you can't control the speaker manually at a high sampling rate, you're practically forced to set it using a the PIT oscillator.

@npub1k78…wvwf @npub1ynh…xgn0 I asked it to write me a sleep function for x86. First it wrote a function that "looped for a number of cycles", then halted. I explained it was broken, then it fixed it with a proper PIT timer IRQ implementation. It didn't say that, I asked it to explain the I/O ports it was writing to, and it was able to.

@npub1ynh…xgn0 what has impressed the most is being able to say "you did X wrong" or basically telling it to refactor the code in a different way, it will usually fix it.
