Materialism doesn’t and can never explain consciousness and experience, where do you think the hard problem of consciousness comes from? Out of thin air?
Oh, and you have to explain these things, because according to materialism it is matter and not consciousness that is fundamental. Idealism doesn’t have to because it makes no such claim.
