HIGHLIGHT
One of the main reasons OpenSats and HRF are comfortable with KYC regime is the fact that they require a company or a shell company for them to issue Grants to their grantees.
Unless circumstances play in their favor, they illegally use these entities to save on initial investment costs for VCs that they are also part of or that are backed by their friends.
Another way they leverage this is by continuously providing grants to obviously non-profitable efforts, which then tend to become vassals of these same entities, as dependencies eventually become more than just political.
Most become US tools with their missions gradually subverted. Exactly like Satoshi envisioned. (notice the irony)
I'm not saying this is good or bad. I'll leave that judgment up to you.
Today we have other options that favor open-protocols such as Angor, Grantless and other solutions with more transparency which tend to get ignored because they aren't loaded with western propaganda and tend to be more neutral and less arbitrary.
On the other hand you have more noble yet centralized efforts led by VCs such as Fulgur (backed by Tether🤫) which is basically empowering a bunch of top engineers to provide parallel solutions with proper UI/UX to the market, sometimes they fail, sometimes they win but at least they keep neutrality like bitcoin itself.
In a nutshell... Are you really free anon, do you have anything bad to say against your masters? I will start.
I hate skateboarding sometimes and their gatekeepers have wrongly misled this one into a popularity competition (my opinion and only mine). Skateboarders can unlock much more value if they'd knew how to leverage technology on their favor and that's what unsuccessfully I am trying to do so far, with my money, no cock-sucking, using open-protocols and sometimes reminding this industry that has been slowly becoming as corrupted as what they promised they'd compete against. Some have decided to fight the cause within the system by chasing regulatory capture and else. Allow me to be cynical on those efforts and good luck.
PS: written by a Western kid.
@npub1der…xzpc would you like to highlight any of this?

I personally know some other people who unfortunately had the same issues as Scott when reporting having had their funds gone from a Cold Card. Coinkite and their partners attitude has been always hostile even against their own customers. These are the same people profiting from KYC exchanges, selling personal data while promoting first principles.
It is all pretty fucked up. You already know who they are... a bunch of leeching cowards.
