@nprofile…75c7 @nprofile…z0rh You got my hopes up! But I don’t see it. I’m on my phone, but I tried the “request desktop site” thing and it looks like they don’t honour it. I’ll try on a Mac in the morning. Thanks for the info, though!

@nprofile…3e6m When I had a heart attack last year, my wife called for an ambulance. While we were waiting for it to arrive, I made sure she had written down my (alphanumeric) phone unlock code and the PINs for my online banking apps. Just in case.

@nprofile…2mmh we moved house (and hence school) every year or two as children, and had similar issues - only it was the 70s and 80s, so no phones or anything

@nprofile…u8z9 A kilobyte is 1,024 bytes not 1,000. All other derived denominations are similarly binary - so a megabyte is 1,048,576 bytes, a gigabyte is 1,024 megabytes, and so on up to terabytes, petabytes, et cetera. It was in the 1980s that hard disk manufacturers started using decimal values (so a megabyte became 1,000,000 bytes), and somehow we let them continue. So if you buy a 4TB HDD its actual capacity is closer to 3.6TB.
Yes, I know about KiB, MiB, etc - those are retcons.

@npub1hvd…9sq9 also currency fluctuations! Note that one price is in USD and another in GBP. How had the currencies changed in that time, too - it’s all way more complicated than people think
