A study using PET brain scans found people with Long COVID had significantly lower levels of VMAT2, a protein involved in dopamine signalling, compared with healthy people. Reductions of 16–20% were found in brain regions involved in motivation, movement, memory, planning and apathy.

Guenter GR: "The best Long Covid study to date has now been published, with surprising results that enable new therapeutic approaches. In simple terms: Long Covid is caused (in the areas studied) by autoantibodies in the blood, which then attack very important parts of the brain and can actually explain all the symptoms."
"Key insight: Long Covid patients must absolutely not donate blood, because it appears to be transmissible via those autoantibodies in the blood!"

Long COVID is significantly underreported across the globe.
Long COVID has affected over 400 million people globally as of 2024, but it’s likely underreported—especially in low- and middle-income countries where data and access to care are limited.

One of the saddest parts about being alive in the ongoing C-19 world, as someone who has stayed up-to-date on the research and lived by it, is that you find out that most everyone you ever knew is happy to move on building a life without you in it, by painting you out as “crazy”.

COVID is NOT primarily a respiratory disease.
It is a systemic vascular-immune disease causing endothelial injury, microvascular thrombosis, and immune dysregulation. This is concerning because the injury is cumulative with each infection (endothelium does not easily regenerate).

You know someone with Long COVID. They need you to ask about it genuinely.
Written by Philip Hoover
"The problem with Long COVID is that most of society would rather not see it. We want to believe the pandemic was just a bad dream we awoke from years ago. (When I hear someone say during COVID, in the past tense, I want to flip a table.)"

I have long Covid. Don’t call my chronic disease a ‘journey’
Peter Swenson, a Yale professor and one of about 20 million Americans with long COVID, says calling chronic illness a “journey” needs to stop. He feels “pinned down by it, stuck with it,” calling it a “bad trip” with fatigue, brain fog, dysautonomia and heart problems.

Yep, this!
High-quality masking slows transmission because the virus has fewer hosts to jump to for viral replication. It’s basic science, but people forget how effective it still is.

Long Covid Is Real — And It’s Changing an Entire Generation.
"Hundreds of thousands of kids in America are struggling with an illness that many doctors and schools refuse to recognize"
"In February 2024, a paper published in the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) estimated that up to 6 million children in the United States had suffered from long Covid at some point."

🇺🇸 USA: Mask mandates return in parts of the Bay Area as virus season nears.
Mask rules are returning to Bay Area health care settings from Nov 1 as COVID, flu, and RSV cases rise.
Counties including Contra Costa, Santa Clara, Sonoma, Napa, San Mateo, and Santa Cruz will require masks for workers, and in some cases patients and visitors, through the winter and early spring.

COVID Isn’t a Cold. It’s Cigarettes All Over Again.
"We’re 5 years into this experiment. Five years of letting it rip. Five years of pretending it’s fine. Five years of accumulated damage that we’re only beginning to understand.
Smoking took decades to reveal its true cost. COVID is speedrunning the whole thing. We’re seeing the consequences in real-time, and we’re still pretending we don’t.
Your body doesn’t forget. Every infection leaves a mark. Every “mild” case adds to the pile. You might feel fine now. You might feel fine for years.
But the bill always comes due.
And when it does, remember: You had a choice. We all did. We chose comfort. We chose denial. We chose to look away."

Scientists Finally Reveal Biological Basis of Long COVID Brain Fog.
"Patients with brain fog might exhibit disrupted expression of AMPA receptors (AMPARs)—key molecules for memory and learning."
"By comparing imaging data from 30 patients with Long COVID to 80 healthy individuals, the researchers found a notable and widespread increase in the density of AMPARs across the brains of patients. This elevated receptor density was directly correlated with the severity of their cognitive impairment, suggesting a clear link between these molecular changes and the symptoms."

Doctors tested a common drug on COVID. The results are stunning.
A new international study led by the Australian National University (ANU) and King’s College London found inhaled heparin, a cheap and widely available drug, halved the need for ventilation and lowered death risk in nearly 500 hospitalised COVID patients across 6 nations.
ANU's Professor van Haren, said: "Inhaled heparin is anti-viral, anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulant. There's no other drug that has that unique combination."
