I was taught 60 years ago to ask for a trial by judge if innocent because you only have to convince one person. Trial by jury if you’re guilty, one of your peers might save you. Surrendering your right to a jury trial can lead to a plea in abeyance & no record. It did require an attorney, the money was well spent.

A stepson was at The Australia Museum in Sydney for 1-1/2 years on a US NSF grant. Bushells coffee added a year. An entomologist working on native bees. His study area was in a biological reserve in the bush about 1/2 way between Sydney & Melbourne. Child born at Royal Women’s Hospital in Sydney ‘86. Had Christmas visit w/them on Bondi Beach.

Burned a lot of Elm ‘73-4 Neighbor gave us his family’s 5’+ tall mica windowed wood stove complete with chromed footrests. Uninsulated place had been a railroad station in 1860s, sawmill to nearby mill town, both water powered.

Won bid to take down >100 dead Elm trees w/ropes ‘70-‘71 for a small college town w/a ground man. We were in school. They were over the power lines, 125 years old & ~85’ tall, just made it w/a 20” bar. We put them between the sidewalk & street, the town picked them up & dug up stumps.

I have a few memories from age 2-3. Sent to live with grandparents at 18-months old to age 3 years. Mother was in hospital at that time. Smell of people’s skin, baking bread & Maple syrup cookies. Do not recall going back home or much else until about age 5.
Photo about 1950, Girl cousin 2 years older visited me in 2022. Barns & house from about 1800 are still standing. Family farm 1810-1986.

New iPhones charge at full speed to 80% & switch to a trickle charge from there to 100% to prevent overheating. Walk past a Tesla charging at 240v and it is running a cooling system. Chevy Bolts also have battery cooling during charging.
iirc low end EVs w/o cooling, Nissan Leafs, have to wait a couple hours after a using a supercharger to cool down before they can be used.

The 3 sisters planting was used by indigenous tribes in North America in the desert Southwest’s 4-corners area with 8.5” of rain/year as well as the wet Northeast with 45” of rain/year.
Some beans are known to bear a crop with a single watering, Brown Tepary beans.

Fixed property taxes 34 years must impact public services when everything is >2x the cost. US property taxes vary by state. California has the lowest, now capped at +2%/year.
My Utah home’s tax increased 37% in 2021, assessments are yearly. There are exemptions for age 65+ low income. Disabled veterans pay $0.

Had an officers knee length coat dated 1942, a Vermont thrift shop find in 1973. Passed it on to family in Wisconsin in 1984.
