I may have accidentally booped a #NixOS onto a Jelly Star thanks to all the information available on the #postmarketos wiki. What do you think of that, Clippy?

I mean, isn't it better if you can swap to another distribution at a moments notice? Shouldn't your configuration and the management of it be nimble and agile?

Is anything done here applicable to the GPD Pocket 4 which shares the same Ryzen AI 9 HX370? I've had nothing but issues with it, which includes https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/work_items/4175 which I still suffer with every day.

Using a servo motor attached to a Raspberry Pi Zero running #nixos to turn on a stubborn Canon IP8700 printer that goes to sleep too often. The lights, visible in the background are on MQTT, so I put the servo on MQTT too! I made the lights shine when the servo fires!

You should check out https://niim.blue and maybe get a cheapo NiimBot printer from eBay like I did. I've been having endless fun

said the exact same thing in a slightly different way at his 39c3 talk:
"AI fuels the fantasy of a world without people: just a boss and a computer, and no ego-shattering confrontations with people who know how to do things telling you "no."

Is it rude to ask your employer to stop showing you their AI generated code?

Are there any devices or examples of running AOSP with a mainline Linux kernel? If not, then calling it "Mobile Linux" is IMO slightly incorrect, because are we really talking about the same "Linux" if it's some vendor abomination, plugged into a system that makes tons of vendor concessions to help fit it in?

I've seen so many AI CEOs or people with close relationships to projects driven by AI getting real mad at the lack of positive sentiment to their work too. See https://github.com/anomalyco/opencode/issues/10416 and https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/423186#issuecomment-3919469369

@npub1huw…c5x7 Honestly, has anyone ever read the terms-and-conditions of https://signin.account.gov.uk/terms-and-conditions ?
Yes, let's all be vulnerable to this unaccountable and fragile service that has removed literally all accountability in its terms of service.

#marchintosh #globaltalk does anyone know how to unstuff sit (stuffit) archives on a linux host, and repack them into a raw floppy disk image, acceptable by minivmac/basiliskii? I don't want to have to install stuffit in the machine first, just to unpack things that should have been distributed as raw disk images in the first place :D

#marchintosh #globaltalk does anybody know how to make minivmac do localtalk over udp on a specific interface? It seems to broadcast to all interfaces. Also what about changing the port? Do you just compile it differently?

On my way to #zhf (zero hydra failures) in https://zurich.nix.ug, and trying to get nixos-unstable working on the little pink riscv64 Mango-Pi MQ Pro whilst at the airport.
Surprisingly comfy to do this development on an arm platform/host, thanks to Nix. #weeknotes #riscv

Any cool meetups or events happening in Vilnius/Lithuania in December?

2024-08-09 13:04:53 GMT

This is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back.
You skip Nix.Camp 2024 - the story ends, you wake up at your shell and believe whatever you want to believe. Continuing to run installers mutating your system in blissful ignorance. Not questioning whether - perhaps - your package dependencies are incomplete. Accepting that one version is more than any person ever needs. never worrying how to reproduce your system from scratch.
But if you attend Nix.Camp 2024 - you stay in wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit hole of reproducibility goes.
