I'm just some kind of nerd: software developer, big fan of functional programming, especially Haskell and Scheme. I also love old Macintosh computers. Haskell programming since 2007, Linux user since 2008, Emacs user since 2018. Currently working as an app developer at a small machine learning consultancy. @npub109e…suq0 I think this is a very good idea, although I would prefer the focus be more on R7RS standard Scheme more than Guile. And it will be very difficult since Scheme is not used often enough in industry.
I have been using Scheme myself to create a medium-scale application, and I have already started writing a series of blog posts about my experience, and what I have learned. I am still in the process of revising them, but I hope to publish them in the first week October, hopefully.
The thing is, I still have relatively little experience with Scheme, only about a year using it for real software engineering. So my blog posts are not really about "best practices," so much as they are about discussing the possible pros and cons of various techniques to solve problems. I have upcoming articles on the pros and cons of:
<li>Scheme "environment" objects, and how the "load" procedure works across various Scheme implementations</li>
<li>Scheme "parameter" objects for dependency injection</li>
<li>Scheme monadic programming, including a discussion of <a href="https://srfi.schemers.org/srfi-247/srfi-247.html" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">SRFI 247: "Syntactic Monads"</a></li>
I would also love to write articles about unit testing and type checking, but that will take some time.

@npub1e8h…7zjt Emacs does have async threads for buffers doing I/O to child processes.
But when it comes to package updates, too many global variables are being updated all at once. It would definitely cause race condition bugs if package updates were all allowed to update the various "defvar" and "defun" data values in parallel.

I was so excited about an alternative browser engine until I found out Andreas Kling is probably an anti-feminist. So disappointed.
On the other hand, if I were to not use tech or software maintained by people with horrible politics I would probably not be able to use much of anything.

If you are interested in being well-informed by real journalism, but worry that the journalism from your own country is something of an echo-chamber, I recommend following @npub1xwj…zfpu and @npub156x…ju5t for real, evidence-based news told from a perspective that you never see in the "Western" world. Their news stories, plus your regular news sources, is a good way to get a more balanced, well-rounded perspective of the war in the middle east.

@npub1xy2…l5zl using Rust would probably have prevent buffer overflows bugs, but not the UID parsing or group change behavior.
People who tried to sell me on "doas" often did by arguing that the simpler design and smaller code base was supposed to make it more secure. Well, security, as it turns out, is pretty damn hard.
