The Atlanta Fed's GDPNow model is projecting 5.1% annualized real growth for Q3. Strongest quarter since the end of 2021.
Worth discounting though. Inventories are adding roughly two percentage points to that headline. Strip those out along with trade and government and private domestic final demand is still growing at ~4.7%. Real, but not as explosive as the top line suggests.
Zoom in further and the picture gets more complicated. Credit card balances hit $1.263 trillion. 12.92% of outstanding balances are 90+ days delinquent. Real hourly earnings are down 0.3% year over year. The saving rate is 3%.
But it's not all deterioration either. New serious delinquencies have stabilized around 6.97%. Real disposable income rose 0.4% in July while spending was flat. Revolving credit growth actually slowed. People are stretched, not collapsing.
The question isn't whether growth is real. It's whether it's reaching the people who need it most.
This is where bitcoin comes in. You don't need the economy to fall apart for bitcoin to make sense. You just need to ask what happens to your surplus when the money it sits in can be expanded to accommodate a government that refuses to live within its means.
Stronger growth helps the fiscal picture. It doesn't mean Washington suddenly found spending discipline.

Pritzker keeps selling Illinois as an economic success story.
Since he took office, the state has averaged the 3rd-highest unemployment rate in the country at 5.4%. The July rate was 4.9%, compared with 4.1% nationally. More than 300,000 people are looking for work. Illinois job growth since 2018 is under 1%, 45th in the country.
Wages have been flat for seven years. Before Pritzker, Illinois pay ranked 13th in the country after adjusting for the cost of living. Now it ranks 26th. Lawmakers still took a $34,000 raise.
The job market he built: 9,400 new private-sector jobs. 36,600 new government jobs. Nearly four government jobs for every one private job.

The European Union's AI Act, fully enforced as of August 2026, classifies AI systems by risk tier and mandates compliance costs that smaller competitors simply cannot absorb. Incumbents like Google and Microsoft absorb those costs easily. Startups die. Regulatory capture produces gatekeepers who write the rules to protect their own market position.
The knowledge problem here is severe. Regulators in Washington or Brussels lack the information required to determine which AI architecture is "safe," which training dataset is acceptable, or which capability threshold triggers mandatory oversight. Prices and competition generate that knowledge through trial, error, and consumer feedback. Bureaucrats generate paperwork.
The argument for regulation always sounds reasonable: safety, accountability, preventing harm. Then you watch the FDA's drug approval process kill people through delay, or the FCC's spectrum management strangle wireless innovation for decades before partial deregulation finally unleashed mobile broadband. The pattern repeats without exception.
Private liability law handles genuine harms. If an AI system defrauds you, injures you, or destroys your property, courts and contract law provide remedy. That mechanism already exists. What regulation actually does is socialize risk for large players while pricing smaller competitors out of existence, leaving you with fewer options and higher costs, not a safer world.
