He left at 17. Went to Canada to sneak into the US. He is 54 now, so has spend the last 37 years in the US. He took up Canadian citizenship and then US citizenship a few years later. Lets say this process was legal and took 5 years. So he has been a US citizen for around 30-32 years now. He does not claim to be a South African and we don't claim him.
