In very most cases: fully agree ^^
Also Ansible and Kubernetes are not opposites anyway, they can be overlapping but you could also use Ansible to setup a k8s cluster for example (if you don't want to use our nice UKS product ^^)

One of our engineers made a PR at 3AM last night, with the description "Had a dream where delete action was miss-clicked instead of csvexport. So removing the option from action list. Prefer this dream to never come true"
Do not underestimate nightmare-driven development

Hello, we're UpCloud, you’ll be able to blame us (and get SLA) if things go wrong

about the broader cultural/ai critique: we hear ya - we don’t have a PR team, and we don’t set the tone/rules/strategy of upcloud the company. however we (the actual company account) also don’t want to pretend we’re something we’re not. when we show up on fedi we should expect to be held to account, and your points are fair.
No need for the kissass version ofc. You’ve already made your position clear, and the honesty is appreciated

thanks for laying all this out so clearly.
both your concerns of the identity-related risk & the environmental impact are completely understandable
those parts of the role aren’t things the engineers running this account personally control, but feedback like this does make a difference internally when we forward it on, so we really really appreciate you naming it instead of just declining silently

unix tools still blow our minds after all these years. got some video streaming out from ffmpeg? simply pipe the bytes over to the next program. endless possibilities

Good morning and happy monday! As the workday starts in europe we watch the server load rise, right on schedule

(Subposting us-east-1 some more)
Jokes aside, we can't point & laugh much because everyone makes mistakes! esp. with DNS
Maybe one day it'll be us with the outage (& all our customers get massive SLA payout)
It's just a good reminder not to put all one's eggs into a single basket.

employees on a company instance does sound like a good middle ground, we do have one or two of those already sitting in the dark, waiting...

Wait let’s take a step back, what’s the reader’s opinion even on “company” accounts here in the first place? On the one hand it’s a nice way to just tag us instead of spamming devs directly that the reader knows work at UpCloud. but on the other hand the devs don’t HAVE to announce where they work anyway, so…

So, (self-hostable) discord alternatives? Anyone got any recommendations? Zulip seems to divide the crowd

Lewis is sick! ..with the RUST bug! Watch him sneeze out some code tonite, 18:00 UTC, be there and/or be square. Gonna be fun to see whether lewis' excitement will sync with his lost grip of the rust language.

Creating cluster, destroying cluster, creating cluster, destroying cluster ... just trying to find the cause for that panic at the end of deleting it
Talk about slow "test-patch-build" cycles ...

Yes, we are a company, ideally we would like to sell our cloud services.
This account can be seen as stream of consciousness from engineers as well as a little customer support.
If one doesn't like it, they don't have to follow us, we're not trying to disguise ourselves as anything :3

Other than subscribing to a bunch of relays, what more can we do to get as federated as possible?
