Game devs that would make a good effort to port to android could often get double purchases out of me. Balatro, dead cells, baba is you, alien isolation, a lot of games I've bought twice to support good work.
However, emulation has gotten SO good recently, I'm probably not going to be as charitable. Especially if an android port lags behind a PC release.

I think it's a REALLY nice phone. I really like the Oppo/OnePlus aesthetic, and in general I think Oppo makes a slightly more fun all rounder phone, while Vivo makes a better photography focused device. The main cameras will be similar, but the vivo telephoto will likely pull a few wins.
The flip side, Oppo tends to let the SOC run a little harder, and the battery is bigger on the Oppo. The oppo "phone stuff" is a little nicer.
Both are amazing devices though. You cant really "go wrong" with either, it's just really narrow differences that will make the decision.

It's so frustrating that the Hard Reset "erase everything" option in Android doesn't automatically wipe out the device from someone's account. I sold my Pixel Tablet, and even though I had wiped out my account before hard reset, it still somehow locked to my account.

Oh man I wish it were that easy. That whole era of starting new channels just doesnt really work anymore unless you have the ability to work the equivalent of a full time job per channel, and you have some magical way of getting a TON of views RIGHT at the launch of the new channel.
It's why all those crappy content farms make bank. YT knows they can count on indentured servant labor to CHURN out constant crap videos.

We wouldn't need to sacrifice features like audio ports and memory card expansion, we would have MUCH better battery life, and I truly believe (to a point) a thicker more evenly proportioned phone is easier to hold than top heavy "skinny" phone.

The SD855 is still significantly more powerful than most entry level and some mid-ranger chips. I always wonder if the performance issues are exacerbated by battery degradation. I'm not trying to use a newer build of Android, so it shouldnt be an issue where newer hardware would enable features in newer builds of android.

at some point we'll need to change our perception of business. It can't be ok anymore, to create literal mountains of ewaste, burning through precious metals and rare earth elements, then have a company arbitrarily decide "the product is dead, buy a new one".
We keep defending business rights and intellectual property. The current relationship we have with products and manufacturers needs to change.

The way regional governments are starting to question their reliance on Microsoft products, I wouldn't be shocked if they similarly started questioning doing business with Apple and Google.
If Huawei can survive (and thrive) after leaving Google, others might start considering a switch too.

Yeah. I was just reading up on this plan.
While I'm glad there will still be a path for me to install anything I want, it does feel like a "boiling the frog slowly" move to eventually take it away.
They already make it seem like some kind of techie/hacker thing by calling it "sideloading", and now that's being escalated.
It's a techie/hacker thing, and only "really advanced users" can do it.
I'm really disappointed in Google. Moves like this increasingly push me away from future efforts like Android XR, and make me more excited for things like Steam Frame and Steam OS.

Making a phone is tough. You have to advertise HEAVILY for YEARS to make any progress on marketshare, especially in the USA.
I think instead, they see that there's already some strong headway on installing PC games on Android phones. With recent court cases kinda forcing Google to be less punitive about competing app stores, it's the perfect time to court Android app developers to ALSO publish on Steam. Open up the Android Steam app, and like the Epic Games app, have another store Android users can shop.
If the Frame lands some decent developer support, and FEX works well for PC gaming emulation, Valve could offer TONS of legit games on Android, and the next Steam Deck could switch to an ARM chip for a better performance per watt.
