Haha! Sadly I’ve found there’s no TLDR when people are so committed to a 💩 coin! Which this may not be. But the “monetary incentive” part will invariably fall on deaf ears when trying to shill it to any Bitcoin maxi huh?! I’m with you 100%. But the AI space does intrigue me and absolutely is another thing I reckon also needs to be decentralised - be it via Bitcoin network or other means. My brain is now fried for today 😵‍💫

My tech knowledge limits me in understanding why AI would need a blockchain too. But his campaign is more about the importance of the decentralisation of ownership of AI.
Here’s his latest - first part re his feeling that Bitcoin miners are pointless 😬. I’ve him we’ll have to agree to disagree on that one!
Second part explaining why Bittensor solves AI decentralisation with native incentive token/governance. My brain stops absorbing at “token” unfortunately as I don’t see how any token drives genuine adoption of the technology mission, rather than people playing fiat greed games with said token which they’ll inevitably trade out of, meaning they also then opt out of their ability to participate in the technology and network 🤷🏼‍♀️🤪
“I’m not sure you are really understanding my point about the BTC miners, I know how it works and why, it doesn’t change the fact that the cryptographers are spending energy on a task, the task itself having no value, solving a mathematical equation doesn’t create a real world value, other than unlocking the Bitcoin. It’s a lot of power going in that could be useful, I.e instead of solving a random equation, they could be solving a real world problem, which is how the Bittensor network is set up.
In regards to your second point, why is it not built on bitcoin these are the reasons:
. Incentive Structures & Native Utility
• TAO is not just a currency; it governs the entire Bittensor ecosystem. It’s used for staking, securing the network, incentivizing miners (validators), and coordinating AI-related tasks.
• The Lightning Network is primarily designed for fast, low-cost transactions, but it doesn’t provide built-in governance, staking, or direct on-chain coordination for AI workloads.
2. Smart Contract Functionality
• Bitcoin and the Lightning Network don’t have native support for the kind of complex smart contract interactions that TAO enables.
• Bittensor uses Substrate, allowing for deep customization in consensus mechanisms and network behavior, which isn’t possible on Bitcoin’s scripting language.
3. Scalability & Flexibility for AI
• AI models require a specialized network with a dynamic incentive structure. TAO allows for programmable economic incentives that adapt to AI performance.

Thank you. Yep that part makes sense. And to me, anything that NEEDS to be adopted as decentralised also needs the monetary incentive to drive said adoption. But are there any other reasons a decentralised AI network would need to be a separate entity to a decentralised monetary network? Maybe blocksize etc? Or could it potentially be integrated on another Bitcoin layer?
Trying to find reasoned arguments while keeping an open mind with a [smart, educated, humanity focussed] friend who is presenting this Bittensor as an all-encompassing solution to both AI and money while still saying Bitcoin is the “underlying gold standard asset”. I’m confused! 😵‍💫

Can someone explain in layman’s terms why decentralised AI can’t be built or integrated on Bitcoin? Is it already being done?
Or - more importantly - why does the likes of Bittensor TAO need a token that isn’t Bitcoin?

A-FREAKING-MEN 👏🏼 “Buy where you can afford, rent where you want to live” was the best advice I ever had in 2010 as a 20-something (who hadn’t heard of Bitcoin or been given any financial literacy!). No regrets using real estate to build some capital in my twenties during that era but my god was it a ball ache for the return as a ‘side hustle’. Admin for tax returns since Bitcoin takes about 10mins instead of 10days. 😵‍💫

I think he needed to articulate examples of the extremes in order to effectively answer the question being asked. I also think he did a great job of that and has no problem with anyone choosing where on the spectrum of extremes they wish to stand. The beauty of the industry at this point is we already have options to make whatever nuanced choice we want: self-custody, multi-sig, lending, exposure via MSTR, whatever. It’s available for people to get involved however they feel most aligned and comfortable 🤷🏼‍♀️

Two phone calls could not illustrate the power of financial incentives more clearly...
📞 Public/Govt clinic: "we can get you in for an initial consultation in May 2025" (not the procedure, the pre-cursor appt).
📞 Private clinic: "we can do next Wednesday if that works?"
The standard of care factor and communication from the Receptionist was also far superior in the latter.
