as long as we preserve the seeds for a few specific chilis (e.g. ancho, guajillo, chipotle, arbol, etc), we can rebuild that which matters

If you haven't looked at AV1, it's _really_ impressive as far as file sizes. I'm seeing 3x size reduction without noticeable quality loss on certain media.
Biggest downside is fucking nothing plays it, and even decently powered devices with CPU can lag with it.

Looking at your kodi.log debug might help, but it's true that weird media storage formats might be tripping it up. I definitely have had issues in the past with .iso files, so having Jellyfin ignore that would probably be a good idea.
https://forum.jellyfin.org
is another resource for issues that I've used in the past.

I would go here:
https://jellyfin.org/downloads/clients/all/
and look up the recommended clients for your devices. I would only use Kodi on a decent mini PC or above, not mobile.
If you have a PC, it's underpowered/laggy, and still like Kodi you could try https://libreelec.tv/ which is an entire OS built around it, that even raspberry pis can run with.
VLC is technically possible, but I think you will run into a lot of usability issues.

It feels as if within a relatively short amount of time, I've went from enjoying completely western-based media to being highly skeptical of any new western media. Probably in the last 15 years the shift happened. I still watch "live-action" stuff, but it has to come from a country outside of America.

While there are technically other studios producing content besides Netflix, it seems like at best they are light versions of it. Does anyone really think Amazon is going to produce grade-A stuff after Rings of Power?
I think the best we can hope for until a shift occurs, which is unlikely, is oases in a desert of slop. Even said oases I generally find not as good as stuff in the golden eras of cinema.
I don't know if I would have ever watched anime if media quality never dropped.

Dune and Dune 2 (2021 2024)
Extraction and Extraction 2 (2020 2023)
Novembre (2022)

2025-07-23 18:52:24 GMT

Indeed, their drop appears to be due to the expected slowdowns in US auto manufacturing (and with that, lack of chip orders). I have no clue if that will improve long term.

Intel (INTC) also has fabs in the US, but they haven't performed well (at least on the cutting edge side) for a decade. It does indeed look like TI (TXN) has multiple fabs in Texas and Utah. They also accepted CHIPS act funding to "expand" their existing fab facilities.
TI doesn't produce anything near cutting edge nodes as far as I know, but they are a work horse for a lot of automative/other industries that don't need <= 7nm chips.
