Since Bitcoiners like to flirt with buying a gun, I can report from my own experience that I find owning a gun a burden. I advise against it.
Why burdensome?
> You have to be extremely careful that no unauthorized persons have access to the weapon.
> Every 5 years (in Austria) the police ring your doorbell to check that your gun is properly stored in the gun cabinet. No discretion is to be expected. The police car parks in front of your house. The 2 officers ring the bell in full uniform. The neighbors ask what happened.
> You must train regularly in the use of a weapon so that you have a realistic chance of not endangering yourself more than you protect yourself.

We moved into a nice 4-room rental apartment in 2001. At the time, we left a € 2,500 #deposit in a #savings account. Today, my 75-year-old owner agreed that we should withdraw the deposit and the measly €100 in #interest from the savings account and exchange it for #Bitcoin.

It's fascinating how this graph reflects the business performance of my small event agency in Innsbruck on a one-to-one basis:
founded in 2001 & built up
2005-08 good years
2008-10 total slump (economic & euro crisis)
2011-17 our best years (liquidity bubble)
2018-19 rather poor
2020-22 Covid shutdown
2022-24 weak (recession)
I've learned that our event business runs 6-12 months ahead of the economy, both in downturns and upswings.
Nevertheless, it always surprises me that we, as a small agency in the Tyrolean mountains, are experiencing the decline of German industry so closely and that we are so directly linked to the big stage of the global economy.
This almost cost my father our farm in the remotest South Tyrolean mountain farming village when he built stables in 1981, needed a small loan of 25 million lire (the equivalent of EUR 12,500) from the local bank and suddenly interest rates rose to 25% because in faraway New York the Fed had to defend the dollar against high inflation and Paul Volcker had to raise the key interest rate to over 20%.
How much damage has been caused worldwide by Keynesian economic policy and soft money central banks for decades.
How unfair that the poor countries on the periphery and the little people are always hit first and hardest.

It turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life. Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t loose faith.
The only thing that kept me going was that I loved what I did. You’ve got to find what you love. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking.

3. My third story is about death.
I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: „If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?“ And whenever the answer has been „No“ for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something. Remembering that I will be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose.
You are already naked.
There is no reason not to follow your heart.
And yet death is the destination we all share. Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life‘s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.

I can understand that Prof. @ThorstenPolleit advised me in 05-2015 not to put my € 10k in #Bitcoin but in gold (that I am 40 BTC poorer, I have forgiven him and myself). But the fact that he still talks about a gold-backed token ("PerthMint token") in 09-2023 is very strange - even though I agree with him on most other points and hold him in high regard as an #Austrian.

Today - thanks to a tip from @IjomaMangold - I visited Tito's Villa Bled and its tea house. Socialist functionary charm palpable with not quite as bad vibes as at Obersalzberg.
Tito used the tea house as a salon to impress his state guests. Symbolic sign - all 3 socialist varieties lead to a dead end:
social market economy - communism - national socialism.
But Tito knew where it was best and many state guests were invited (even Indira Gandhi).
After jumping into the Bohinjsko Jezero I have to say:
