i mean in reality i cant imagine Americans doing it, but now that you say it , i wonder if an ac heating blanket would even work. I know that a hair dryer didn't for me 🫠

yeah no I heard about those - it was the heated seats and FM examples were what surprised me - (which caitp told me after were not examples from news I'd missed)

ah news to me! I mean I have seen where they can remotely shut you down or cancel some things but paying for heated seats and FM radio is wild!? First I heard! Who is doing that? I just bought a new car last year and the only annoying thing like this is Sirius FM which I can't seem to disable entirely

We have so many customizability features in software that will never be discovered by most people because it is so overwhelming a morass of settings and menus and things. Of all things, it strikes me that this is probably something we could use an intelligent (local and small) bot to improve. Have you seen anything doing this particularly well?

What do you think would be different if we'd landed E4X? Would it have changed anything about where we are? Would it be better or worse because of it?

I guess there is also the challenging bit that you don't necessarily "own" the movie as much as you own access to it as long as the service continues to exist :). I mean, I still buy them too but that's kind of a bummer - it feels like we should give you some downloadable credential you can send to any similar service

Conversely, what's a thing that you just kind of got and then were like "oh wow" and use it all the time/love it?

Tell me a thing that you thought you wanted, and then got and now realize maybe it wasn't as useful or great as you imagined? Could be a standard, or just a thing you bought even...

2025-08-13 14:36:39 GMT

I seem to have developed a kind of viceral reaction to "dunking" on stuff, whether I agree with it or not - but I also wonder how much I seem to do this without realizing it myself...

It's funny that we verb-ized and tensed "Google" for search generically - so you might say "hold on, googling..."
"hold on, yahooing"
"hold on, binging"
"hold on, ecosiaing"
Do those sound as natural to you? Is it just exposure?

Yeah totally. My grandfather was a printer, i think that's an interesting analogy too. It was definitely more of a craft, they printed newspapers and brochures and campaign buttons and signs, etc. They weren't immediately put out of business by the apple ii and printshop, but it was a process where the value of their work slowly declined

I was thinking today about how many of the action movies and even comics of my youth which were enjoyed by both sides of the political isle featured a super wealthy bad guy who was just greedy and petty and liked power... Sure, there were a few wildly wealthy heroes too, but they were also selfless. But it's weird, here we are in reality, it seems like now half the people think Lex Luthor is the hero
