@nprofile…d73q @nprofile…rrxl @nprofile…r2m8 @nprofile…r0n9 I think I'm probably one of the few people on this planet that likes Firefox. I don't know. I'm not gonna die on this hill. I just don't see why people are switching to Chrome

@nprofile…d73q @nprofile…r0n9 @nprofile…r2m8 @nprofile…gc6f I'm gonna disagree with you there. I've been using it fine for the past couple of years and I've never had anything that I'd say is missing from the feature set.
I genuinely don't know why people say it lacks in features

@nprofile…d73q @nprofile…r0n9 @nprofile…r2m8 @nprofile…gc6f the slogan is just a PR thing.
If you're advocating for them to do work for the community for free, you're effectively wishing for them to go bankrupt.
Sure, they do make money off of Google paying them to make the Google search engine the default one in their browser, but as Firefox becomes less and less influential in the browser market, that source of revenue is becoming riskier and riskier every day.
Mozilla is seeing the writing on the wall on this one. I think that it's healthy for them to divest their resources in other places. The browser market is just not profitable anymore, now with Google Chrome being a monopoly and all

2026-01-10 14:27:59 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…d73q @nprofile…r0n9 @nprofile…r2m8 @nprofile…gc6f this is gonna make me sound like an asshole, but why should they?
You're saying they should drop everything else they're doing and focus on the one project that's not making them any money. Isn't that counterintuitive to the whole purpose of a company?
Reminder that Firefox is free software. Every bit of work they're putting into it is effectively given away to the community. They won't see any return on investment from it.
Even assuming they did have the money to continue working on Firefox for the foreseeable future, why should they continue to work on it for free?

2026-01-10 12:28:01 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…d73q @nprofile…r0n9 @nprofile…r2m8 @nprofile…gc6f I'm gonna play the devil's advocate here, and say that Mozilla not focusing on their browser anymore is actually the right move.
How are they gonna make money, in the long term, if they only focus all their efforts on a web browser that's effectively free software? They can't make money off of it because nobody wants to pay for a web browser. They expect it to be free.
Them trying to diverge their business is actually the only course going forward

@nprofile…mdcj A is for America and Japan. Basically, the disc may only be played on American or Japanese bluray players. Assuming that's the case for your player (usually you can just check just from the way the power outlet of the player looks since the US and Japan have the same outlet shape) then it should in theory play. If it still doesn't then I'm out of ideas

2025-08-05 19:10:29 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…mdcj wait, no. The region would be A, B, C or D. It should be on the case of the disc. like here https://www.the-home-cinema-guide.com/wp-content/uploads/blu-ray-region-code-b.jpg
That B is the region, which means that the disc may only be played in Europe and Africa

2025-08-05 19:05:32 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…mdcj if you have a bluray optical reader on your PC, you can also use something called makemkv to rip the contents off the disc onto your hard drive to see if it ain't damaged

2025-08-05 19:04:36 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…mdcj then at this point, either the disc or the player is defective. But I would double check the region of the disc, just to be sure

2025-08-05 19:01:18 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…mdcj there's also another thing. Ultra HD bluray discs cannot be played on regular bluray players. You need the more expensive ultra HD bluray players that specifically advertise that can play such discs (notice, just because they claim they play Ultra HD content doesn't necessairly mean that they can play Ultra HD bluray discs. It can just mean that they upscale regular HD bluray to 4K)

2025-08-05 18:56:18 GMT

- reply

@nprofile…mdcj can be a lot of things. Legit bluray discs are designated to specific regions of the world (marked A, B, C or D). Bluray players also are built for one specific region of those. The disc and the player regions must match or else the player will refuse to play them
