This sounds like something that can be investigated without needing to take off your mask (except for when you need a full colonoscopy).
Wear the best mask that you have (for me, that's probably the 3M Aura).
But I am in the same situation and have often waited out symptoms, because I did not want to go the place with lots of sick people where no one wears a mask (but me).

How strict were the mandates in France? In the Netherlands people were pushed to take the vaccine by asking them to test before entering a restaurant if they had not been vaccinated. But vaccine requirements were never put in place for essential activities. In the end, around 25% of the population did not get the vaccine.

Dutch research showed that by the end of 2023 97% of the population had at least one infection. You might be part of the remaining 3% (assuming that they remained infection free for another 1.5 years).

This bit does not sound harmless to me:
"HCoV-OC43 may even contribute to the development of neurodegenerative cascades (Meessen-Pinard et al., 2017), with brain regions injured by HCoV viral attack (Netland et al., 2008) overlapping with those responsible for self-consciousness, as observed in SARS-CoV-2 (Parsons et al., 2021)."
