I have a family member who I think is primed to eventually appreciate bitcoin but I have been struggling to get through to him.
My most recent response was “I’m not opposed to bitcoin, I just don’t understand it”
Based on the below description, what easily digestible sources (short articles/videos) might you all recommend? @npub1der…xzpc @npub1s5y…6q7z @npub1s05…eyhe @npub1hu3…h8nh @npub1cj8…rz4u @npub1a3h…fg37 @npub1k7v…c04l
Audience:
- ~60 year old upper middle class male who is recently retired, living comfortably on a lake debt free but conscious of his financials and meets with a financial advisor regularly
- Spent career in IT, ran a small software business through the 90’s
- Recognized the potential of the PC early on as his colleagues were all buying multiple for their small businesses and made a significant return from an 80’s MSFT stock investment
- Tunes into CNBC almost daily and tinkers with options for fun
- Leans conservative but tries to ignore the news for the most part

Looking for some big brain insights on nostr. Does anyone have thoughts on the following?
What tangential impacts could the SVB collapse have on the commercial real estate market and its lenders that noone is thinking about?
Looking at #[0] #[1] for your great insights

Just saw my weekly buy processed this morning.
Most sats acquired in months!

I need to send ernest money for a real estate purchase. My options are:
1) Set up an appointment at the bank to send a wire. This comes with a $30 fee and about an hour of my time (at a time that is convenient for the bank).
2) Use the “high tech”, “innovative” option where I download an app that will effectively let me remote deposit a check into the escrow account. Only problem here is I haven’t written a check in years and don’t have a checkbook for the account.
Does anyone know a better way to move money…?

Glad I could help! And thanks for the zap! Feels great to provide the community some value as a lowly pleb

This is true. It’s known as the “denominator effect”.
This was also seen in the last ~6 months in the real estate markets as funds became over-concentrated in RE after equities fell over the last year

Nostr technical question for anyone who can help.
Can multiple people have the same username?
For example, I am #[0] and verified via Nostrplebs.com
Could someone else be verified elsewhere but also have the @toby username?
Thanks in advance for the help!#[1] #[2] #[3] #[4] #[5]

The compounding effects of this across all community members will take Nostr to places incomprehensible to us today

It’s unreal the incentives that Zaps drive.
The act of someone zapping real value (even if less that 1 penny USD) sends a signal unparalleled in any social network to date.
Makes me want to provide more and more insight and value to this community.

Very different time preferences.

I find myself refreshing my Nostr feed in anticipation of new posts.
Sometimes I check back an hour later to nothing new.
At first I interpreted this as a downside to Nostr vs. Twitter.
Then I realized I’ve been conditioned by the Twitter algo to seek the dopamine hit of new updates even though they’re mostly just noise.
Nostr is the signal to Twitter’s noise and I feel like my dopamine receptors are now in recovery.

I see people zapping 21 sats around non-stop.
Today, this is far less than 1 penny.
In about 100 years (~2120), this will be roughly equivalent to the block reward.
21 sats today = 10 minutes of the world’s hashing expenses in 100 years.
Mind blowing.

I have been fascinated with the exponentiality of the halving schedule lately.
Crazy fact for the day:
Just 2.5 total bitcoin will be mined in the final 40 years of BTC’s mining schedule (2100-2140).
40 years of PoW will be rewarded with a total of 2.5 BTC…
#[0] , you are right. Our minds can’t comprehend this level of impact

What is the best way to search for new pages in nostr?
The only way I have success with the search is if I manually paste someone’s npub.
I’ve even tried very generic words like “car” and get nothing.

Is there a basic likely explanation for why I don’t see any likes aside from my own on posts. I assume I’m not the only like on this post of #[1]

Seems that Muun wallet only creates temp lightning invoices, no? I saw #[2] recommend Wallet of Satoshi. Is that my best bet?
