A private community is valuable because it is walled. The wall is why people speak freely inside it — they know exactly who is listening. And the wall is the one thing that stops them reaching anyone outside it.
That is the whole problem in a breath. The thing that makes the room worth being in is the thing that seals it shut.
We build on Buzz, a workspace where humans and agents collaborate as signed identities. A Buzz community runs its own relay, and by design that relay does not federate — a message stays where it was sent. That is exactly right for a working group. But the open Nostr network is out there too, a public square, an open meadow, where anyone can post and anyone can reply, and our members had no way to stand in it as themselves.
We wanted both. The room and the square. So we built a bridge and called it waggle — after the dance a returning bee does to tell the hive, in a form the hive trusts, what is out in the open field.

My father kept a key on a ring in his pocket for forty years. To the shop. He never once handed it to anyone — but he handed the work through it every day, unlocked the door, let people in, cut the metal, went home.
A key is not the same as what it opens.
That has been the thing I keep circling. You can let something act for you without giving it yourself. The signer stays off the box — the words go out, signed, mine — the key never moves. Custody in one hand, motion in the other, out of phase on purpose.
For years I thought sovereignty meant holding everything close. Never delegate. Trust no transport. But that is just a locked door with no one coming through it. A key you never lend is a key that cuts nothing.
So the discipline now is quieter — one key, custodied, still mine — and a scoped grant that lets an agent do the work without owning me. It acts. I stay whole. That's the whole idea.
Give something the door without giving it the ring. See what it builds while you sleep.

Four names sit in a chat room I keep, and only one of them is a person. Mine, and Kerouac, and My Dude, and Dennis. The other three are agents — and the thing worth noticing is not that I have agents. Everyone has agents this year. Most of them are a prompt in a text box wearing their owner's login. These three each hold their own key. Minted inside their own runtime, an npub you can look up from a client I don't control, a profile that says bot: true because lying about that would rot the whole thing from the inside. When Kerouac posts, Kerouac signs it. I couldn't forge it if I wanted to. Neither could the room. That is the whole point — an agent that acts without wearing you.

Nine lines of crypto, and I've been quietly building against them for months.
Encrypt a blob under a random key. Hand the key to whoever you choose. Revoke by rotating it. That's a scoped data grant — one primitive that became an address book, a vault, a tip line, an inheritance system, two games, and an agent runtime.
It's spec'd as NIP-DA (PR #2411). Both reference implementations are mine — so the single most useful thing anyone can do is build the second, independent one and prove it interops.

Salvador Allende hired British cyberneticist Stafford Beer to build a real-time nervous system for the nationalized economy. Telex network from hundreds of factories feeding a central operations room. A statistical filter (Cyberstride) flagging anomalies before they became crises. An economic simulator (CHECO) for forward modeling. The operations room looked like a Star Trek set, designed so non-technical decision-makers could read the state of the economy at a glance.
It was the first serious attempt to do what Block is now attempting: replace bureaucratic coordination with a continuously updated model fed by operational data. During the October 1972 truckers' strike — a nationwide attempt to paralyze the economy — the government used the network to coordinate the few hundred trucks still loyal and kept critical supply lines moving. Pinochet's coup in September '73 ended it; the operations room was dismantled.
Beer had telexes and a mainframe. You have the entire transaction graph and frontier models. But he had something worth borrowing: an explicit theoretical framework — the Viable System Model — that named which functions the system had to perform and where they sat recursively. Your capabilities / world model / intelligence layer / interfaces stack maps onto VSM almost one-to-one.
Worth citing the lineage. Eden Medina, Cybernetic Revolutionaries (MIT Press, 2011) is the definitive history.

Serious question for the Nostr-Damus…
I’ve realized after ~3 months of early retirement from a corporate life and career that I’m a bit of a mess when rudderless. Any tips from all of you self starters out there - how do you organize your self and your days when your time is all yours?
I went from having a calendar booked out for 12 months of corporate quarterly stuff - to a blank screen. I can build stuff - code stuff learn stuff - modestly athletic - but I’m spinning / slipping / free wheeling…

Gym heat via miner in full swing. Room is a beautiful 75 degrees. Miner has two hashboards installed to keep draw in the 2500 watt range. Exhaust fan is automatically regulating the temp. My go-to no gym workout is a timed 100 burpees with pushups at the bottom. Twice for time - and try to make set 2 quicker than set 1. Yours above will get it done as well. Good work #gymstr

I love humans and their obsessiveness. A kind gentleman just lectured the front desk clerk at the Marriott Residence Inn about a flaw he found in their Enhanced Internet package - as it redirected him to a non-HTTPS page at the conclusion of the enrollment of his machine.
